askfred? Recently I have been unable to access askfred.net.
I haven't been fencing for a while, so I wonder if they have changed the website?
I've tried it on several computers :/ Any suggestions? -

But to answer the other questions:
There's been no change to FRED that would make him unavailable to you. If you continue to have trouble, email me and I may (or may not) be able to help.

Array It looks to me like Fred has got bandwidth issues. I am guessing that more queries are coming in than the server, modems amd routers can handle, but that is definitely arm chair quarterbacking. However I have noticed the same.

Sam FRED seems to run fine for me most any time I look.
Between 1:30 AM CDT and 2:30 AM CDT performance suffers a bit because the backup runs then, which is very disk intensive. The machine has more than enough bandwidth; there's not likely a network issue.
But pages still load, they just take a couple seconds, as opposed to the nearly instantaneous response time during the day. Anyone who is experiencing truly poor performance during the day might want to contact me and we could look into it deeper.

Thanks everyone,
I think it just has to do with the protective restrictions on the computer I'm on, /sigh, I dont know how Im going to know where the tourneys are now hehe, Ill check it out later on another computer.

Array You should be able to modify the protective settings and firewall settins and so on pretty easily. I'm not an expert, but I do know XP pretty well, and I can help you with the basics if you need it. -
That would depend on whether or not Trollers has access to the settings or not. -
Actually, there is some kind of weird issue with askfred.net not responding from certain ISP's. I can get to askfred.net through my phones wireless connection; but when I switch it to wifi on my home AT&T DSL line, the server stops responding.
A traceroute from my local network never finds the server. It jumps from my NATed firewall to no where:
traceroute to askfred.net (70.86.22.132), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets
1 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 3.455 ms 1.277 ms 1.001 ms
2 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) 2.021 ms 1.934 ms 1.880 ms

I had the same problem at work from my ISP, Savvis. I thought originally it was a problem specific to my computer. I figured I'd track it down later, but I switched browsers, computers, and OS's with the same results. I checked firewall settings at both locations, and AskFred's not being blocked as a rule by IP or Name entry.
Something else is going on with these providers. If you want to get some more specific information, message me, and I can give you my external IP's. -

Another possibility is that your external IP could be banned from FRED's server by his brute force detector. FRED has a system that bans an IP permanently if it detects a compromised system trying a brute force attack. There have been a couple occasions when a legit FRED user later gets served that IP by their ISP, so they can't get in.
Feel free to email me if you suspect this may be happening to you. I'll be able to remove your IP from the ban list.

Oh, wait; I just re-read and realized you had the same experience from home and work (different ISPs & IPs). Email me and maybe we can figure something out. This sounds more like an actual routing issue.
