| First non-white competitor for RSA that I have seen. One should follow the host country civilities. Does South Africa use "colored" for their non-white citizens?

| So what did the teams exchange there, after it was all over? Or maybe it wasn't an exchange, but at least the South Africans had bags of some sort that I thougt they gave to the Chinese. |

| To me they looked like little banners, seen other similar banners before. Cord for hanging, banner over a small wooden dowel. I believe the Chinese passed small presents at the start of the match and then RSA presented the banners in the end in response.

| Kulsczar pulled a muscle or something on the first touch. What's interesting is that, at an NAC, there would be a 5-10 minutes of assessment of the injury. But, at the Olympics, the show must go on, apparently.
Well, the substitution seems to be working as Kovacs, the veteran (38 years old!) is staging a bit of a rally, 39-37. |

| Chinese fencers look a lot like the French...lots of footwork and distance-based preparation, not many blade actions.

| China wins it, 45-43. Great scrambling riposte by Li as he goes off the strip, followed by a double on the next touch. |

| Dang...
Was pulling for Hungary, but those Chinese are pretty darn good.
At least Kovacs got his licks in at what is possibly his last Olympics.
Hungary looked too reserved at the beginning of the match. Not taking enough chances or trying to "make it happen." Unfortunately, energy means more than anything else in Team fencing, and China had more of it from the get-go.

an "injury" to justify replacement
You can not substitute alternate at your own will in Olympics unless there is an injury.
I just saw same thing done by VEN
