US vs. US - Can the US coach coach the fencers?

There are so many threads about the Olympics, I couldn't read all the posts to find this answer. But I'm just curious.........

In the Women's Ind. Saber Semifinals, who coached our fencers on the strip? In most clubs, if two fencers are from the same club, the coaches DO NOT coach them, even if they are different coaches from the same club.

Did the US girls get coached from Korfanty and Burdan in the Semi finals and in the Final???? Does anyone know? I would think that if they did, it would be awkward if not unethical.....unless there's no rule against that in the Olympics.

Just because there's no rule against it doesn't mean it's not awkward or unethical.

The US coaches sat in the stands when the US WS fenced each other in the semi. I think it even made the TV feed.

Correct -- and I read about that in two sources that the coaches did not coach the US athletes when there were bouts of US vs US.

The Italian girls in WF were not coached in the semifinal.

It's been the National Coaches' policy that when Americans fence each other internationally, there is no coaching, even if both personal coaches are present. When we compete on the world stage, we are all on the same team.

As far as I know, that is true for all fencing countries.
