| Women's Individual Epee Britta Heidemann enters as the top seed and the two Chinese fencers are seeded 4th and 5th.
The action opens on the Yellow piste with Kelley Hurley facing off against Jung Hyo Jung. |

| It started late. Hurley looked really stiff and loses 15-6.

| Was anyone else watching Laura Flessel's first bout? Her opponent wasted both appeals saying a foot touch was a floor touch. Kinda weird. |

| I'm watching her second bout against Zhong and it looks like her ET touch is anulled as being while falling.

| Oh I see. There's no priority because passivity was called. |

| I'm sorry but what the hell happened on Flessel's bout? Looks like China's a sore loser. That didn't look like falling to me. |

| Hard to follow the ref's rulings in this bout. Lots of actions while falling, but inconsistent calls on annulments. Flessel wins (on time I believe).
It's too late (3:40AM on the East Coast). I'm off to bed.

| I'm confused. . .
Why did they seem to fence it out after and Flessel was given the touch? I think I'm missing a big piece here. . .

| Once again, there was no priority because the referee called passivity.
I am very much enjoying S. Schalm bout right now. |

| I was watching it on French TV. According to the French commentators, the long discussion over whether Flessel's hit was valid was to do with her dropping the weapon - did she let go before or after the hit? Looked clean to me, but it was annulled in the end.
As telkanuru said, the ref called passivity, but according to the French, she shouldn't have, as it was in the last minute of normal time.
The French national coach, Jean-François di Martino, got a black card for interfering with the refs! (I'm not sure exactly what happened, though - I think he may have been objecting to a Chinese coach trying to influence the refs. I'll post again if there's any more info from French TV. I'm sure they'll try to get an interview.) |

| The touch wasn't annuled though. The score remained 11-10. I don't think annulment was ever an issue. |
