| Ota vs Choi was a good bout. Unfortunatly, I looked away for a little bit and I think I missed a crucial red card against Choi when it was 11-10 Ota. Ota ends up winning it 15-14. |

| Gerek's coming on strip now. Gerek looked better than Zhu in their earlier bouts, but Zhu's new shoes put them dead even in my book.
First touch Zhu. Looks like Gerek whips him on the neck in the next touch. Zhu is pretty cool about it. Second touch Gerek.

| Gerek is getting pretty wild. Zhu doesn't seem to be handling it that well. 3-2 Gerek.
Nevermind, Zhu is adjusting, 4-3 Zhu

| Gerek's footwork is... not what I'd expect from an elite fencer.
Eh, seems to work just fine though.

| Zhu gets a beautiful riposte while Gerek was passing, then Gerek gets two quick attacks to even it up at 5-5, then Zhu hits on his own attack. 6-5 Zhu at the one minute break. Good bout

The Momster | You should be able to get to the other strips by clicking on the fencing events in the side bar. Unfortunately it doesn't say which strip is which on the menu.

| There were several close calls and replays in a row. The bout is getting pretty heated.
I think Gerek got a break (wrong call) to make it 8-8, then Zhu takes the lead again. 9-8 Zhu with an attack. 10-8 Zhu with a riposte. Really wild fencing.

| Did they learn it from the French soccer team?
(Referring to the lePechoux/Guyart corps-a-corps.)

| 12-8 Zhu, Gerek's losing it and gets Zhu to straighten his blade to buy time. The crowd chants something in Chinese the whole time Zhu is straightening his blade. It doesn't work and Gerek gets the next touch. Zhu rattles two off quickly to make it 14-9.
It looks like Zhu wins it with a riposte, but the referee doesn't allow it (due to corp a corp?). Zhu wins it with a counterattack. 15-9, and Gerek's done.
Very entertaining bout, and the crowd was deafening. The referee had to yell over them at the end.

| First time seeing Meinhardt fence...he seems to be the ultimate hot-rodding US Men's Junior Foil fencer - lots of big, flicky hand actions and galloping footwork. Started out the bout strong, but lost some touches going for the razzmatazz. Not bad, just needs to be refined.
Let's hope he learned something and sticks around for another 4 years! |

Right person got the touch, so no big deal just a little weird, but the action just got called something other than what it really was.

| Gerek was using a lot of very aggressive footwork - crossover advances from advance-lunge distance. All his ripostes were compound, and most of his attacks were with his blade drawn way back. Zhu stayed more upright and traditional, and pulled away from 8-8 by catching Gerek off-balance, or closing to infight whenever he had an opportunity. Zhu had a huge advantage when he managed to close the distance, because he was over his legs and had his weapon in front of him. Gerek scored on some nice attacks and remises early on, but Zhu was better today. He draws Cassara, now, which will give the Chinese crowd a real thrill if he makes it close. |
