| Did Anyone Capture... ... CBC's men's epee or women's foil streaming coverage that aired live at 3:49 (Pacific time) yesterday and this morning? I tried to record them, but couldn't schedule them, couldn't wait up for them.
There's a vast amount of coverage still to go, and I'll record anything and everything that I can. The only piece that's out of reach still is the men's sabre finals at 3:49 am - 7:50 am tomorrow morning.
But if anyone caught these missing chunks, I and a lot of other west coast folks would love a copy.

| I too, would love copies. CBC has clips and interviews of Jujie Luan which can be downloaded. I'm staying up to watch the Women's Epee and will record that for you.

| It is all there at: http://www.nbcolympics.com/fencing/index.html
You have to install Microsoft Silverlight, a free download. But all the bouts are there and some good interviews and medal ceremonies.
The navigation takes a little getting used to, but you can watch pretty much any bout that you may have missed with the live feeds.
If you want to capture them for any reason, try Snagit: http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capt...KgoogleStmhome

That's just about in range for me, provided I can sneak in a nap at noon the following day. If I can start it recording, it can just run through to 7:30 without me. But given my success rate to date, something will go wrong, so it's best that as many people as possible make the attempt.
What do you use to record? I have a piece of software called "Replay A/V" that seems to do a good job, and also provides the capability to convert to other formats. If I can find something suitable to rip out all the empty piste time, I'll do that too, but there's at least 40 hours of fencing scheduled (bliss!) so it may take a while.
Does anyone know, is the red piste the only one provided as streaming video, or do other providers provide .. other?

I think it does streaming. I'll talk to my brother who's a techno-geek.

| It looks like CBC have most of their feed at least coming from the red piste. It's not manned by commentators or whatever, just a camera feed, so I'd assume the same feed is probably available world wide through any provider that wants to carry it. I failed to capture men's epee finals or women's foil finals, so I don't know if those broadcasts carry more than the red piste.
The next final bouts available are men's sabre, but that feed runs from 3:49 to 7:50 am PST. Early risers on the east coast could catch it, starting at 6:49 am; in Europe, it would commence at 11:49 am, but I don't know where they'd find a feed.
But CBC has streaming content listed for 6:49 - midnight (PST) tonight and midnight to 2:49 tomorrow morning - that's eight contiguous hours - followed by 3:49 - 7:50 am, then 5 hours 40 minutes Wednesday morning, and 5 hours 40 Wednesday evening, another 3 hours on Thursday, 8 hours Friday evening / Saturday morning, 6 hours Saturday evening, and so on. That's over 40 hours between now and next Sunday, which will certainly be enough to satisfy me, one piste or no. Just have to find disk space...

| CBC Archived Fencing Footage Here's the letter I received back when I requested fencing footage: Quote:
We were delighted to read that you are enjoying our coverage of the
Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. It's always heartening to read an email
like yours, and we have forwarded your thoughts to our senior producers
and production crew.
At present time, CBC has begun to upload archived footage from past
events. We have plans to archive our coverage so one will have viewing
access to events that have been missed.
Our archives of events can be found here: www.cbc.ca/olympics/ondemand
We will be uploading more footage as it becomes available. Please keep
checking back for updates regarding past event coverage.
We have been experiencing issues with archived footage in the On-Demand
section of the website. Some users have reported slow buffering or
'stuttering' due to the high bandwidth demand on both ISP's (Internet
Service Provider) and CBC's servers. We are addressing the issue at the
moment, and are working to correct it as soon as possible.
In some cases, the archives will be re-uploaded.
Once again, thank you for writing.

| So it looks like we will be able to get missed footage afterall. I hope it will be more than just the Canadian fencers (although I want that for my business). There were some fantastic bouts put on by non-Canadians that I would like for my own fencing collection.

thanx | Well, the first questions to answer are what format is it in, and what kind of computer are you using?

I haven't managed to capture any of that yet, but I have snagged some men's individual sabre, some women's team sabre including last night's Canada vs Poland and Canada vs South Africa - not the best sabre I've ever watched... - and the women's epee and men's foil quarter-finals (semifinals? not sure yet) through finals. Got one and a half rounds of the women's team sabre semis and finals, then the connection died.
Next up, I think, is women's team foil, which is scheduled for tomorrow evening, when I can keep an eye on it.
Capture is in .asf format, compatible with Windoze Media Player, but that may not be the best format for you. I can convert to .avi and, I think, .mp4, so if you want copies, tell me what format. Not the best of video quality, but watchable in full screen without becoming too impressionistic.

| Robert,
Thanks for the offer.
The CBC has all the live footage somewhere. I suspect people within the CFF will get access to it. You should see if one of your charming daughters can sweet talk somebody into a copy.
In the meantime, I'm going to try and work some of my own connections. I'll let you know what I get.

| Sorry to burst your bubble but we at the CFF get the same access via the CBC as everyone else. The best I was able to get from the CBC was the schedule and times of possible TV coverage.
I was fortunate to use a proxy service in the USA to get access to the nbc feeds and the msolympic feeds of all pistes. However this died from time to time.
As for ripping the feeds WM Recorder works very well it costs but you get what you pay for.
While I would love to provide you copies of what I have, I've really not got anything decent since the feeds tended to drop repeatedly.

| Thanks Tim,
I've contacted the CBC directly. I'll let you know if I get anything.
