| You missed a controversial moment in the Trillini - Nam bout. Nam was 12-9 up, then was awarded the next point. Trillini kicks up a fuss... and is red carded... 14-9. |

| I like Nam's fencing; fast feet and well timed direct attacks. Vezzali, however, was tactically very good and characteristically resolute in defence. Started with 3 dominant hits going backwards- combination of stop hits and at least one beautiful reposte, if I recall. Perhaps she learnt from Trillini- who let Nam get too close and thus found it hard to land her repostes (being hit by several close quater remeses).
Nam's tactics were odd in the final period- seemed totally content to be a hit down and appeared to be playing for a last minute victory. To be fair, her patience was rewarded with two lightening attacks with a minute left to play.
Then Vezzali showed she can produce some equally fast and well timed attacks to win it.
I can't believe they have updated the FIE rankings already!

How did she incur the other red card? |

| Ok, maybe a dumb question answered elsewhere, but why was Nam fencing on the right side when she is left handed and her opponent was right handed?

| Too bad the Italians didn't get a sweep in WF. Even without it, they are in first place in the medal standings for fencing.
Speaking of women's foil, why channel surfing, I caught Jujie Luan's second bout against Aida Mohamed last night before bed.
While I *knew* that Aida represents Hungary, she splits her time between Vancouver, Budapest and the WC circuit. So I'm used to seeing her around the club with her hubby Laurie Shrong, and I think of her as a Canadian. Nonetheless, it was good to see her with a respectable finish for her country.
I find the commentating for the fencing at the CBC to be excellent.

| I haven't ever seen anyone worry about that rule at the world level.

Good show by Jujie Luan, to come to Beijing at age 50 and make it out of the first round! | Anyone brave enough to tell Luan she qualifies to go to Limoges to fence in Veterans World Championships? Ed Korfanty could tell her how much fun it is.

Theoretically, you don't lose distance, your opponent gains some, and you must adjust.
. | Correct - her and the opponent should've held ground, and not have Granbassi advance;
also falling in order to avoid a touch is a cardable offense; Granbassi did 3 splits and all 3 times gained ground without any cards.
Once she was hit as she was falling and the touch was annulled, I think Lamonova was out of reviews by then.
Couple of horrid calls do affect a fencer's psyche tremendously, as well.

Congratulations to Jujie.
Few realize the dedication and the pain it takes to stay in world class form in fencing.
I am very proud of Jujie and very glad that she decided to represent Canada at the World Veterans Fencing Championships, Limoges, France, October 2008
Best of luck to Canadian fencers at the Olympics and to all Canadian athletes.
