Su's occasional counterattacks were also very effective. |

| I don't know how much the crowd factored into it for Emily, but Su was really pumped up for that match. Su gained confidence throughout the match and Cross wasn't able to piece together a rally of her own to stop the momentum.
Hanna also lost her match against Golubitsky - I didn't get to see it b/c I was watching Emily's match. Hanna said that Golubitsky pushed the tempo more and it took her a little longer to adjust to it.
Erinn's next match is at 1.

| Foil with flicking:
- dynamic footwork
- explosive attacks
- dramatic right of way calls
Foil after flicking banned:
- slow, plodding footwork
- few attacks, lots of sloppy remises/in-fighting/ducking
- directors fall asleep, look up periodically to make a one-light right of way call
Gee, Roach, thanks for making Fencing TeeVee-friendly!!1 |

| The Chinese crowd continues to be a factor, not just in the Chinese bouts.
There are lots of pauses since the fencers can't hear the referee call "allez".
Sun just got within one of Knapek (9-10) and the crowd noise is deafening. |

Anyway, was flicking ever all that prevalent in the women's game? I didn't see much top-level women's foil in the pre-Youtube days, but I don't remember it being anywhere near as common as it was on the men's side. |

| Gruchala's making a big comeback over here on yellow. Narrowed it to 10-8 after a very slow start. |

| I think I missed something...why does Knapek look so pissed? Didn't she just win? |

Final score was 15-13, and Knapek seemed to bellow back at the crowd, quite inelegantly and unsporting-like it seemed to me, as she took her mask off.
As a rank newbie (parent of a new fencing student), I have no idea if there were any controversial touch calls that went against her, or if Knapek was just frustrated with Sun's comeback and the audience's exponential response to and encouragement of it. (Maybe the experts here who were watching could comment on that.) |

| I couldn't make it all out, but I thought I heard an announcement (I was watching yellow piste and they still were deafening) after the Sun bout to please hold your cheering till the end of the bout or something. |

Ideally, a knowledgeable viewer should have a pretty good sense of which fencer scored the touch without having to wait for the referee's decision. |

| Wow. Even after seeing each of them over a dozen times, the GE commercials are now looking entertaining. At least compared to most of the WF bouts.
Still not sure which I'll buy first though -- the GE jet engine, windmill, water purification plant or baggage scanner. |

| Why did the ref take so much time to get the fencers back to en garde after each halt in Emily's bout? Crowd noise doesn't explain it; was he waiting for the replay system to be engaged? |

Amazing how the mute button can mess with product placement. |

| Maitrejean leads 8-7 after the second period - very tense bout. |
