| Jo's Journey It was a long night. Jo was exhausted by the time she and Serana reached the palace. "Who are those guys?" Jo wanted to know as they passed three sleeping figures near the castle wall.

| Serana stepped closer to where she peered around some shrubs, trying to discern the facial characteristics of the three sleepers in the fading light. "I dunno..." she shrugged, "But they seem harmless enough."
Meekal snorted in his sleep. "Lady moon, you are like a marble pebble in the sunshine. Yes, Rufus's outfit is quite becoming also, isn't it...?"
Serana made a face. "Err.... anyways, we'd better get up to our rooms. It's late and tomorrow's the ball."
The two were quiet as they made their way up to the rooms set aside for squires, Jo silently dreading her encounter with the queen that was coming. After a while, Serana opened her mouth to say something, a bit imbarressed. "I'm not very good at buying things, I mean... I.. I'm not sure how to do my hair or anything for the ball. Could you.... help me? I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to... I mean..."

| Jo noted the tangled mess on Serana's head and wondered when the last was that it had seen a comb. She thought to herself that surely the girl had been joking. Actually Serana looked every bit unlady-like as one could possibly get. Not only was her hair a mess, but her face was dirty and her tunic was torn. And who knows from the seat of the breeches she wore, what she had sat in. Her boots were caked in mud.
Jo smiled and thought,"Finally, a challenge I can handle." To Serana she said, "Well, I supposed fixing your hair is the least I can do considering you did not cut my throat in the forest. But first, let's get out of the dirty clothes and have baths."
Serana looked down at herself as if for the first time and said, *"A bath! Do you want me to catch my death?"
"Trust me, you will enjoy it. Now where is you tub?"
Jo hummed busied herself as Serana looked on in amazment. Finally she had something to do that she was good at. No weapons involved. She would turn Serana into a beautiful lady for the ball.
And what about herself? She studied herself momentarily in the looking glass. Well, she did not look so fantastic after her oredeal trapsing through the forest and confronting George of Washington. But it wouldn't take long to repair the damage, afterall she was a natural beauty. She even had enough hair now to allow her to tie it up. A sad smile crossed her lips as she thought of the time that Naekos had so mercilessly chopped it off.
*(note: In Medieval times it was believed that baths could be harmful. The day the king tooka bath was a speacial day.)

| Serana stared incredulously at the big white tub in front of her.
"Go on, I'm not going to do it for you." Jo said, and shut the door on serana, off to do other things to get ready.
Serana tugged off her boots (mud caking onto the floor), and hesitantly dipped a toe into the warm water. She winced, then slowly her face relaxed, realizing it wasn't that bad. Soon she was washed and out of the bathtub. Wet, but clean, with the fresh smell of scented soap. Wrapping a towel around herself she left the bathroom, looking at the one lone dress in her chest of clothes that used to belong to her mother. It was suprisingly well kept, and beautiful, though Serana wasn't an expert on such things. Quickly she pulled it on, her hair still dripping wet, and went next door to see what Jo had in store for her.
She knocked on the door. She heard a quick "coming!" from inside, then the door opened. Serana had to keep herself from letting her jaw drop. This wasn't the Jo she knew... Jo had turned into the beautiful Lady Josephine. But Josephine didn't give her time to gawk.
"Come on in." she said, looking at Serana's hair with a analizing gaze. She quickly sat the other girl down in a chair, muttering things such as "the dress is fine, but we'll have to do something about the shoes" and "It might look good like this". "Now keep your head still." she said in a louder voice, "and put this on." She motioned to some powder and other makeup items layed out on the table in front of Serana. When all Serana really did was poke at them, Jo sighed in exasperation. "You don't know how to put THOSE on? You really are hopeless." soon Serana was now fully equip with makeup.
Jo started on her hair, trying this and that untill she had found the perfect 'do, a braided bun, with ribbon run through it.
The Lady turned Serana around and stepped back, admiring her handy work. The other girl did look beautiful, suprisingly in fact. "I think it'll do. Now off with you, I have to finish some stuff up here."
Serana said a apologetic "Thank you" and quickly walked out of the room to go look at herself in her own chambers. Suprised at the transformation, she did a little twirl in front of the mirror and smiled. She'd never felt this pretty before. Taking the doorknob, she opened the door and stepped into the hall, ready as ever for the ball.

| JO's dress was stunning, red crepe peeking through black lace. The bodice was a low cut square pulled together in the front by corestt ribbon. The sleeves were long, the ends cut into exaggerated V's which dangled and flowed from her wrists. She added black stockings and hightop button boots to complete the ensemble. Around her neck and dangling from her ears were black star saphires surrounded by blood red garnets.
She had pulled her hair up in a French Chingon fashion and added picks studded in more garnet. Tiny curling tendrils of her dark silky hair framed her face. Finally she had pinked her cheeks and donned a bit of eye colour and lip rouge. Now she was ready to present herself.
Herself...all alone. This gave her pause. She should have been able to find some young man to escort her to the ball, but she had been too busy running around in the forest trying to be the warrior she was not. Then there was the matter of Zelda. She had behaved badly with her and still needed to face the consequences of that. What would become of her? Well, she musn't dwell on that now. It could wait for another time. After the ball perhaps. Then everyone would be in a better mood. And who knows, maybe her knight in shining armour will be at the ball and sweep her of her feet and she'll never have to worry about weapons and all that rot again.
So, with her heart full of hope she left the chamber and headed toward the ballroom anxious to see what fate had in store for her.

| Lady Rosaline was walking down the hall to her room after a troublesome time with Meekel the Daft Prince of Muu. She chuckled softly at the thought of him trying to 'woo' Lady Moon. Rosaline sighed as she was coming up to her room. She was so very tired from the nights 'trama' and then shoping for her dress. She was almost to her door when she saw Serana walking down the hall. She watched her as she lightly bounced her way. "Why hello Serana." Serana picked up her pace to greet Rosaline. "Hello Rosaline, ready for the ball?" Rosaline chuckled again, then held up her dress. "Not in the least" Serana looked exquisite in her dress, and with her hair pulled up. "My you do look wonderful!" Serana blushed. "You really think so?" She asked as she did a little turn. "Of Course! I'm jelious you will steal all of the guys away!" Serana giggled. "Thats your job Rosaline" Now it was Rosalines turn to laugh. "Yea, in my dreams that my job. Listen, you hurry along, I think I'll take a quick rest, and see you at the ball." Serana nodded. "Alright, but dont rest to long, you might just miss the whole thing!" Rosaline shook her head. "I wouldn't miss this ball if my life depended on it! Hey, aren't you and swordsman going together?" Serana shrugged. "He said that he wasn't really sure, but he would meet me before the ball at the clock by the entrance to the great hall." Serana bowed her head. "Although, I doubt he will go with me. There are to many other women that are better than I am." Rosaline furrowed her brow. "That's not true Serana! I mean for one look at yourself!" Serana turned to look into one of the hallway mirrors. "Truly, you look like Cinderella! Not to mention, your fighting is magnificent. I've seen you practice a few times and I am at awe for your talent." Serana smiled. "Really?" "Yes really! Now go on and have some fun! Oh, and will you tell swordsman that I most likely will be late, and for him just to go have the first dance with you!" Now Serana's smile went from cheek to cheek. She nodded then huried down the hall. Rosaline shook her head and went into her room. She sighed placing her dress neatly on her chair, then falling onto her bed. 'Just a short while to close my eyes then I'll get up.' She thought, and seconds later she was asleep.
(Sorry ladies, I hope you dont mind my intrution on your post. Although there wasn't any where else to put it. Hope you dont mind. )

| Lady Rosaline sat up quickly grabing her dagger from under her pillow at the same time. She looked around her, then realized that she had only dreamed that the king had been stabed by is brother at the ball. She smaked her forehead not realizing her own strength. "Ow! Oh, I will be Terribly late!" Gently rubbing her head she stood up. Looking in the mirrow made her realize she needed a bath. She quickly ran to her washroom, then ran seconds later out of her room. Rosaline ran down the hall, tried to stop in front of Lady Moons door where many things were on the floor (Including Lady Moon.), and ended up sliding past then politely walking back. "Oh dear . . ." Lady Rosaline examined Moons dress and the stain, then the gifts on the floor, then the shy Meekal who was staring at his feet. "Oh moon, I can explain. .most of this but right now is not the Greatest time. I will tell you everything at the ball. If that's alright." Lady Moon nodded. "great! Now, Would it be any trouble if I borrowed some er soap? I kind of overslept and well. . ." Rosaline motioned to her hair and clothes. Moon smiled slightly, then went to get Rosaline some soap. Meekal continued to stare at his feet. Moon returned seconds later with a peppermint smelling soap. "Oh thank you ssoo much! I uh. .hope you two have fun." Rosaline gave Moon an apologetic smile then ran off the way she came. When she turned a tight corner she literally ran into Angel. This caused the soap bar to go flying out of her hands, onto the floor where Angel stepped on it, slipped then that made Rosaline fall as well. "Woah!" "AH!" Rosaline bit her lower lip. "boy, I'm just causing waayy to many skrew ups today. I am so sorry! Really I was in a hurry. . and I didn't see you coming and. . ." Angel held up his hand to silence her. "It's ok, I have my bad days to you know." Rosaline smiled. "Hey, you should be down at the ball having fun, not running into young girls who are still. .in their work out clothes" Rosaline groaned. 'This is great just Great! What a wonderful day!' She though as she accepted Angels hand to help her up. "Thank you. So why aren't you down at the ball?" She asked as she brushed off her clothes, wich didn't really do a lot of good.

| Nękos arrived, tense and panting, at the clock a few minutes after he'd promised Serana. Well, right on by his timepiece, but the clock argued otherwise. He saw two beautifully dressed women standing by the base, one appearing concerned, and the other - he recognized her as Jo - seeming to be trying to calm her. Either Serana was later than he - then he was safe - or she'd already given up and left - then he was screwed. "Evening, Josephine, good evening, m'lady. Have either of you seen the Maid Serana her at th-" Then he recognized the other woman - woman! - and his jaw dropped. "No way...it can't be..."
Serana appeared even more distressed by this comment, and turned again to Jo. "He doesn't like it..." she muttered.
Nękos was now in a bad position. "What? Don't like it? Of course I do! It's just...I just...I didn't recognize you! I didn't realize it was possible...I didn't think you could be so beautiful!" Oops. Time to backpedal... "I mean, not that I didn't think you were pretty, but I didn't think...argh!" He gave up, and hoped it would be quick and painless.
Serana stopped, blushed through her rouge. "It's alright...I get what you mean. Thank you."
"All right...you're welcome. I mean...ah, just nevermind. Shall we?"
"I think we shall."
And so they entered.

| Blade his hand carefully placed his hand on the hilt of the sabre in case there was trouble and continued to follow Naekos and his new acquaintances. He arrived at the Palace right behind them.
Blade was wary of strangers and used stealth to guide him pass the palace guards. Blade's stealth was that of Talruum. He had it instinctively although he truly learnt it in the mountains. Blade entered unnoticed.
He let out a small chuckle at the lack of security.
He joined the queue of guests entering the ball.
The other guests in the queue began to stir and scuff there feet as the smell of one of their numbers was quite on their nose.

| Jo watched as Serana and Naekos disappeared down the corridor. For just a moment she wished it was she on his arm, but if it had to be anyone else, she was truly happy that it was Serana.
She was lost in thought when she was pulled back to reality by a familiar voice. "Hallo m'lady. You certainly are lookin' extrordinary this evnin'." It was Steve the tender of the Bitter End. "Good evening to you Master Steve. You are looking quite dapper yourself." "Are you alone m'lady?" he asked hopefully. Jo looked about and shrugged,"Why, I suppose I am." "Then would ya mind very much if I was ta escort ya to the ballroom?" he said with a wide grin. He looked so hopeful that she didn't have the heart to say no. Very kindly she reply,"That would be lovely," as she held out her arm. Steve took her arm and the two walk quietly toward the ballroom. "So, tell me about yourself, Master Steve........."

| Rosaline laughed slightly. "As a matter of fact yes I am, and I dont have anyone to go with either." Angel just stood there and memorized the floor. Rosaline smiled. "Tell you what. You're alone, I'm alone lets go together." Angel smiled. "Give me like ten minutes to change then we'll be off." Rosaline opened the door to her room, told Angel to make himself comfortable. Then went to her changing room. She didn't have time to take a bath, but she made the most of what she could. Fifteen minutes later she came out fully ready. Angel jumped to his feet when she came out. Rosaline smiled "shall we?" she asked. Angel nodded, and held out his arm. Rosaline linked hers with his, and they were off. As they walked they talked of small things. "To tell you the truth. That Zarcon fellow. .I dont trust him at all! Not even in the dungon." Angel nodded "I agree. That's exactly why I was going there mainly to protect the king." "As am I." Angel looked at her puzzled Rosaline reached up to her hair, and pulled out a medium sized dagger. Angel just stared at her preparedness. Rosaline laughed as she replaced the dagger which blended in with the other jewels in her hair. Then pulled him down the hall towards the ball. "Come on, or we shall miss the entire ball!" Angel laughed, and quickened his pace.

| Dr.Abernathy had asked Jo to help remove Loch's soiled and torn clothing. This she did while trying not to let curiosity get the best of her. She did note however that the man was ruggedly built. He certainly had not been lolling round getting soft. By the hue of his skin it was obvious he had spent much time out of doors. As she removed his chemise she could not help but notice that his chest was deeply tanned and covered by coarse dark hair. She would have liked to run her fingers through it but instead lighly trace the curviture of his bicep. However injured he was, his muscles remained smooth and firm. She looked up suddenly embarassed and hoped the doctor had not seen what she did.
Quickly she went back to work, gently wiping the dirt and grime from his ashen face, brushing little wisps of hair back into place. Methodically she worked down dusting him off and carefully blotting his various lacerations. He moaned softly as if being disturbed while conducting some great activity.
