| Wow.
I thought it would be Becca, Sada and Mariel. I guess I got it backwards.

| If there's any footage/video out there to download, I would appreciate it. I got my times mixed up and slept through the finals. I would love to get to see them.
I can't get NBC's coverage because I'm in Canada & CBC looks like they just have live coverage.

| I thought it was great. What can anyone say. Except please let us see the bouts on TV, I really want coverage. I want to sit in a chair and scream about their extensions and their wires and stuff..... please!!!
But it was nice to wake up and find the USA had Gold under the Olympic Tree.

| Mariel Zagunis was Amazing Congratulations to Mariel Zagunis on her Second Olympic Gold, that must be a very difficult feat to accomplish and she did it. She displayed amazing fencing and strip control in both her semifinals and finals bouts. Congratulations too to Becca Ward and Sada Jacobson. |

| A great day for the lefties of the world. I watched several bouts from the web site and it is tough to really cheer when you have read the outcome.
So that is what real footwork is like.
Great comeback Becca.
Sada - could you have looked any more pouty up there? I would kill to participate and to win a medal? And the stroke and two brain sureries have nothing to do with my opinion.

Of course you'd kill to participate and win a medal, you're not as good as Sada Jacobson. |

Heck, these days I'm not as good as some of the teenagers at my club. I would kill to fence like Sada on a bad day.
These days I am just lucky to wake up. I am facing a potential third brain surgery and the fact that I am even upright on the strip is an accomplishment. I wish I could accept that fact.

I thought she was fencing a little listlessly, myself. She almost got drien off the end of the strip at least once. That's not characteristic of her.
Mariel fenced great, but I wonder if Athens wasn't running through Sada's mind at the time...

'cause in the past Sada has beaten Mariel (and Mariel has beaten Sada), but I really expected Sada to take gold this year. |

| Me, too. I was rooting for her...not to take anything away from Mariel.
I know she's retiring now, but the trend is her friend. Bronze, now silver...
Come on, Sada, four more little years...

Honestly, the US women just swept and you're here to criticize? I am by no means the blindly follow never criticize type but you need to shut up. How would you feel if you went to the olympics and won a medal twice and felt like you failed both times? You expect her to be stoic and show no emotion?
She is not being disrespectful to the sport or any of her opponents. Such honest displays of emotion are what we should hope to see in sports.

These women are amazing athletes and worthy of all the press and accolades they can receive. Can you think of better representatives of the US? Like I said in my blog, it is so great to be able to represent your country with something other than a rifle. (no slam against our armed forces. It is kind of cool to let loose with a sidewinder)
Now, I also would hope for similar discourse about the Paralympics to follow.

I just looked at the 2 MEI medal bouts in their entirety. There were showed at channel 9, despite that it says that fencing is in CH11. There will be more fencing on those EBU channels. There are two WSI highlights clips saved, both a few minutes long. I have no idea if you can see it from Canada. You must use IE to look at those clips, Mozilla is not supported.
Eurosport is not showing any fencing on TV at all. I have so far not been able to see any fencing on the Swedish webcast Peking+.
Do post and tell if it works out for you.
Have a nice time!

| I watched WS on NBC.com and noted that Sada's coach gave Mariel a big hug after she won. I know losing gold was hard for him to take as well, and I thought it was a classy move. |

Peter Gustafsson | Peter, it would be a bittersweet irony if we have to send you DVDs of fencing from the US. Thanks for all the previous years' WCs and Os.

Come on, Sada, four more little years... | Law school usually takes 3 years, leaving a whole year to get back into shape. If the US qualifies a team, they are free to send any participants to compete. Might be tough on the ones who participated in team qualification. But the US should send the fencers who are fencing best just before the Olympics.
