Yeah, I know. A lot of the local broadcasters are asking how can we compete with THAT in 2010?

Even if you don't appreciate pageantry and spectacle, I hope you can understand that the opening ceremony provides context and background that enhances the perception/reception of athletic performance.
Just FYI 5 separate people gave me rep for that post about how lame and completely out of context opening ceremonies are. That's more rep that I have ever received for a single post before

PS I still don't see how people prancing about in spandex "provides context and background that enhances the perception/reception of athletic performance".

PPS LOL at the fact that they used CGI to fake some of the fireworks.

What I read was that they set the fireworks off earlier and then inserted them into the opening ceremony feed. Not exactly the same as creating them electronically. Perhaps a distinction without a difference, though.

Usually what I hate about the ceremonies is the desperate attempt at making them "artsy". This one had more of a Vegas show feel to me...
Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you!

As opposed to the dancing cowboys in Atlanta? THAT was a disgrace...
That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again.

This is hilarious. You work for a company that sells sport equipment. You take great effort to produce quality product and differentiate that product from others with a tool called 'branding'... how are you not understanding that pageantry and presentation enhance perception of a product.

If you need rep points, let me know. I have collected well over 50k and am willing to share with you, if it makes you feel better.
    Take your time. Read carefully.

Nah, for me the kicker was using Han Chinese children to stand-in for the actual ethnic groups during the anthem.
The time which we have at our disposal every day is elastic; the passions that we feel expand it, those that we inspire contract it; and habit fills up what remains.

I do see that "branding" improves perception of a product but only if it is good branding.

Spandex = bad branding IMO which was my original point.

If there were a way to take you up on your kind offer of free rep then I would gladly take it.
