| Contest Entrants: PLEASE READ If you've posted a story that you want to be judged for the writing contest, please use this thread to indicate where your story is located. If you could go back to that story thread & edit the story to read "Contest Entry", that would be MOST appreciated by the judges.
Don't forget: Spelling & grammar DO count, & the story must be related to Arconia to be eligible. I think we can be a tad flexible on the word count.
Because of this new request, I think we judges can afford 5 days to allow you to put forth the best you can. Hopefully, we'll have reached our decision by July 30.

| Contest Entry (Ch. 4 of Search for the Sword.)
As the prince and his dark knights were riding along they heard faint galloping coming swiftly towards them. The figure that was leading a large group of knights, and rode on a white stalion wore a hooded cloak of black on the outside, and a silk like blue on the inside. The dark knights immediatly circled around the prince to protect him while the prince himself drew his sword. "HALT! Who goes there?!" questioned the head knight. The figure slowed the horse into a canter then finally to a stop. The knights fell in line behind their leader. "I said who goes there!" The knight demanded. The figure removed their hood to reveal a young woman with long flowing auborn hair. She wore simple travel clothes of deep green which acsented her eyes, *not* to mention her figure. She sweapt down off her horse to bow before the prince. "My prince I wish to join you on your quest for the sword." She said. She noticed that half of the knights had stepped out of the circle and were slowly aproching her. She spoke swiftly so as to tell the prince everything before the knights reached her. "I have followed you from Arconia, but do not be afraid for I was careful to make sure I was not followed myself. I wish to serve the king and queen. . .now you as well in protecting the kingdom." She paused to catch her breath and to hear what the prince had to say in return. "Why would I need you a woman and her pitiful knight, if I have *my* knights?" the prince asked while he carefully examined the young lady before him. "My prince, in some cases the touch of a woman is better than the punch of a man. Also these are some of the best knight from Arconia." She answered while gesturing to the knights behind her. "And what might those cases be?" He replied while replacing his sword. "For this journey I do not know." There was a long moment of silence. "What other reason have you of coming with us?" The prince asked as he signaled for his men to back away, and replace their weapons. "Your highness where I came from I had no dignity. My family name was disgraced by my father. Therefore, I was thought to be nothing by everyone in my village. After a while I began to believe that I was nothing. In short I wish to show everyone. . .and especially myself that I can be and will be something." She paused to bow again. "That is where you come in. If it pleases you." She could tell that the prince wasn't exactly happy about taking her along. After a while he turned his horse to continue riding, followed by his knights. The mysterious woman jumped on her horse and caught up to the prince where two knights grabed her horses reins pulling her horse away. "IF THAT IS NOT A GOOD ENOUGH EXCUSE THEN I HAVE ANOTHER ONE!" She yelled up to the prince. "What did you sister do something wrong to?" The prince scoffed over his shoulder. "For your information your *highness* my sister died two weeks ago, and was one of the most *noble* people I have ever known." The girl sneerd back. "I have news that could save your life, and the life of another women. *Not to mention the life of King Arcon*!" She added. The prince stoped. "alright you have my attention." The girl smiled and the knights let go of her horse.

| I think the entire thread of Arcon,Mango, Willow, Swordman, Attila in Mongolia should win an award, an entire award, we had spys, double agents, people doubling back and forth across dangerous boarders. We should win first place, and second place should be our other thread with Arcon, Mango, Willow, Attila, Swordsman, et al, who travelled to Hilo, was attacked by sharks, and met G. Bush who explained it all. |

| i too have increased my fencing hours, surely you can dash off one well written paragraph, it doesn't have to be long, only a few sentences, how about 4-5 sentences per contestant. (that's how i got the first story going if you recall by using run-on sentences, but go on.....be mean, take all the credit for yourselves, i'll leave now, but i'll be back don't worry about me, i'll be alright) |

| "it was a dark and stormy night. Ned bundled up again the wind and walked down the middle of the empty country road. He felt uncertain of his whereabouts, since his car went off the road. It seemed like hours, but actually it had only been about fifteen minutes. He felt a little unsteady, and felt a bump on his head, but he kept on walking, looking for a place to make a phone call".

| Just up ahead, he thought he saw a house with some lights on. He made it to the front door and rang the doorbell. It looked like a nice place, and he just made it before it really started raining hard. The door opened and a middle aged man stood in the archway, "yes? what can we do for you?" Ned started to tell him that he had had a car accident, but the man interrupted, "never mind, I think you need a drink, won't you come in?" [everyone should be yelling: DONT GO IN, right about here]
Ned touched the bump on his temple and agreed, "yes, i need to use the phone, my car skidded off the road"....DON"T GO IN |

| Won't you please sit down, the middle aged man began, "my name is Norman, I was just sitting down for a brandy, and sitting at my window seat when I saw you walking down the street" Ned sank into a seat and listened. "I was watching an old film about a demon Squid in the South Pacific, and decided I had just about had enough when your scarf caught my attention" He poured a shot of brandy for Ned. "sip this slowly, while I telephone the constable and in the meanwhile, you put your feet up here, and I'll call Millie to tend to you" He called on a little telephone to the head housekeeper, who appeared at the door. |

| "yes Mr Bruster, I heard you call. Oh! what a nasty bruise you have there young man, you poor dear, I see Mr. Bruster has poured you a brandy, I'll see to something from the kitchen." Thank you, Ned replied, I feel a little weak, the walk took alot out of me, I don't think I'll need any medical attention though I would like to call my wife." Millie nodded sympathetically, 'of course you can call, here's the telephone'. She placed the phone in front of Ned. He picked up the phone and tried to dial. |

| Mr. Bruster watched as Ned dialed, and poured another brandy. He felt fondly toward the boy. Ned listened at the phone for a moment and said "there's no answer, I think April must have gone somewhere" Bruster took the phone from his hand. "don't worry at all. It's still early! The constable will take your report and we'll see that you get home"
He chuckled lightly

| oh, i thought we were just working on Arconia Accessories, and we would be able to work on a new genre. It's has an interesting sort of modern turn to it, not being funny here (classical vs modern etc), but actually the time period i had in mind was a little after the gothic period, with cars, but not quite our time. I think the people in this area also fenced, in fact, Mr. Bruster has a few foils, sabers, and eppes hanging around somewhere in his attic. We'll see. Can't anyone get out of the castle for a little while? |

| For this particular contest, the theme is Arconia. Maybe for the next contest, we'll do a more futuristic theme.
