Array the new darkness As the shadows began to lay their wary paths across the Arconian terrain, so the profound obscurity of darkness began to envelop all who had ventured out. No longer had they the resonant clarity of the sunlight hours, no more the bustling activity of the day to shield them from their own worst thoughts and fears. The silence of this night incited an uncompromising awareness in all, although the intensity of their senses was dulled by the unnatural stillness that surrounded them until the emergence of first-light.
In the day that followed, the Arconian people went about their business. Nothing out of the ordinary was mentioned, no one spoke of their fearful uncertainties, preferring to keep them in the secluded isolation of the individual minds in which they dwelled; but this was far from over. Those who held such thoughts within, those who had experienced the almost supernatural tranquillity of the previous hours of darkness, they knew that something was different in the kingdom. Something ambiguous, indistinguishable yet unyielding prowled within them. Each who knew these thoughts, each who had met with the shadows on that night, knew of no others who shared their anxiety about the impeding conclusion of the day.
Together, each of them was alone. I wish I could think of something witty to write here. -

Array Many days had past for the shadows’ chosen few. With every daybreak was conveyed a new beginning, an enhanced perspective on all that had come about. This brought no solace. In the search for reassurance each had struggled to consider all that had occurred, striving to uncover the facts that would lead their restless minds to contented resolution. There were no facts. No truth could ever be disclosed on the daunting presence in the Kingdom on that night, there were no events to be recalled; thus they remained, uneasy in their minds' relentlessly toiling existence until the new darkness returned.

Array Wow, deppresso-city, man! It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag. - Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC -
