    Scholarship vid w/ duel

    Hey everyone!

I don't think anyone remembers me because I was on constantly, and then disappeared like two years ago, I think. But I'm back, if just for a little while =)

Anyway, I have a favor to ask of everyone! I just made this 2 min video for a 20k scholarship, and I need a boatload of people to view it, as that is one of the factors of winning the scholarship. I thought I'd post it here because, as with almost every film I make, it has the period costumes and dueling, etc.

You can find it here - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm_tBUZQ_Pw

Please at least check it out? Pretty please? If everyone is as I left them, you're all nice people. =)

    Thanks!

    Okay, my thoughts.

Cute. The tea arguements were fun. The servant's voice pushed the silly envelope for me, but did recall Mel Brooks' Silent Movie where the only speaking part went to Marcel Mareau!

    The duel.

I rather liked the choreography. They were not trying a lot of cuts with a thrusting weapon. The disengage is visually appealing and particularly nice when it appears to serve purpose.

The choreography was simple in essence (NOT putting it down, duels would not generally involve more than five different moves), which allowed greater speed on the part of the performers. The use of thrusts and parries in which the blades keep contact through the recovery allowed the fencers to keep it safe while fast. From a choreographed viewpoint, I liked it. It would be effective and easy to set on another pair of performers as needed. A good piece for live stage as well.

Fencers would find it odd, but the viewing public would have fun.

    I remember you, Александра Дмитриевна

Nice video, one suggestion - the captions seem to be same length, regardless of amount of text. Easy way to figure out duration for each caption is to read it aloud in your normal speech speed and add 1-2 seconds.

And good luck with the scholarship!

    Very cute.

Having lived in England I could totally buy the duel over tea choice

I also agree with Needle in that a couple of the captions were a little long for the alloted time.

    Good luck

Needle!! Oh, I used to be obsessed with these forums - and hoorah for fellow Russians.

Yes, I am totally aware of the caption issues, my problem was that it could be a total length of 2 mins, and I had a full 15 seconds I had to somehow cut! I'm afraid fluidity suffered because of that, but it had to be done.

The choreography was done by the two fencing - they're professionals, actually - but I had to edit it in order for it to appear better on screen. There was a lot more back and forth on the screen than there was really.

Thank you much for the well wishing as well - I know of only one other video that is better than mind, and it is actually the same idea, just with martial arts. I wont post the link though, because they already have over 13000 views next to my paltry 530!
