| Not to mention all the other weapons. Their self-imposed deadline was midnight, August 1.
I'm surprised the tireless technocrats of the FIE didn't have a phalanx of functionaries foaming at the mouth to process the paperwork promptly.

2) The initial order of the fencers will be established according to the adjusted FIE official ranking, as of August 1st, 2008, at midnight.
| As far as I can understand it means that they use ranking as of August 1st,
but it does not imply that they will actually do it on August 1st.

| Yeah, it might be a bit much to expect.
However; they do say: "As soon as all the fencers have an initial classification" they will then draw the lots. That should already have been tabulated. Clearly, a binding legal promise.
Class action lawsuit to follow!

They never promised "as soon as lots have been drawn, post the results" now did they?
Perhaps they follow the USFA model where it's considered enough to simply meet, decide something, sign contracts, count ballots, etc without detailing what happened |

| Can we then expect the IOC to be taking over control of the FIE soon?

| Perhaps it has all been done, but the Chinese have banned access to the website where it is posted.
FIE could be subversive, clearly capitalist running dogs in charge there. |

| Craig mentioned that tableaux were his weekend (voluntary) homework;
surely we'll have them Monday and it'll be 99.99999% correct.

With some due seriousness, they were able to update the men's foil list on-line pretty darned quickly during the Baldini Incident.

| Not really, firstly Mr. Rogers has to fence to get into 32, and Mr. Smart does not - hopefully young Senegalese or Egyptian will be just a warm up.
secondly - because of the 2 pods' he might fence Mr.Smart or Gn. Pozdniakov in the round of 32.

| Word on the hutong is that the drawing of lots is on the 7th.
If every pair is randomized, it's a pretty tough guess who fences whom at this point.

| Fortunately, as I read it the US WS fencers won't face each other regardless of pairings until very deep in the tournament. |

My understanding (which is usually quite challenged) was, that the pod system (Anakin always comes to mind) separates team mates as much as possible.
