Array Journalists attacking fencers at Olympic's Well, not really, but according to this odd little news piece Olympic Fencing Hall sets fence to create quiet training environment
something must have happen to cause the officials, at the last minute(!), to set up a barrier between the press and the fencers.
Journalists weaving their pens around in a threating manner, trying to get the fencers to engage them one-on-one?
What were these officials thinking - that fencing was so underground that it would not attract press coverage?
Maybe it's a plot by the beach volley ball federation, scared of competition for TV coverage, trying to keep fencing and its well-dressed combatants in their traditional place, out of the limelight.
Conspiracy anyone? -

Array From recent articles I've been seeing there seems to be a general lock down on the idea of communication. Not surprising I suppose. -

Array Maybe since the fencing hall and the press center are in the same building, the fence is to keep long swashbuckling fencing bouts from spilling over into the ink-stained wretches' area...ala "Blazing Saddles"

Array I'm surprised beach volleyball has to jockey for the limelight considering how much less clothing they are required to wear. I mean, extra melanin, anyone? -

Array Journalists attacking fencers at Olympics
It's not an attack if their cameras are not threatening the valid target area. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WON'T YOU BUY MY TACTICAL WHEEL!!!???? -

Array The real question is if the cameras were extending. -

Array Well, in theory, if their cameras are zooming in, the focal length of the lense would be "extending."
So yes, valid attack from the photo gallery. "Sometimes we, as coaches, get into that dictator mode where you just tell and you don't listen and you don't try to understand them." Tom Izzo, Mich. St.

Array If you read about me, it'll probably be something like: "Oblivious American Trips over Anti-Aircraft Missile Battery" (Reuters) Beijing 8/8/08 14:23:09
An American tourist stumbled into a restricted zone near the famous "Bird's Nest" stadium late this afternoon, inadvertently triggering a launch of the missile battery intended to protect the Olympic Games from a terrorist attack.
The missiles tracked and detonated on an outbound Latvian Airlines 747 jumbo jet, which then veered off course and crashed into the National Stadium only hours before the Opening Ceremonies. The resulting explosion prematurely set off the thousands of fireworks already installed for the massive display this evening. Many of the errant fireworks landed on the nearby YingDong Natatorium, home to the water polo competitions and the swimming portion of the Modern Pentathalon. The structure was totally destroyed by fire.
NBC spokesperson Biff "Pop" Coulture said the loss of the YingDong Natatorium would not seriously impact the coverage of the Beijing Games. "It's not like Modern Pentathalon was getting any airtime, anyway," Coulture noted.
The loss of the venue for the Opening Cremonies will require some last minute maneuvering by the network. "Our current plan is to re-run videotape of the opening ceremonies of the 1994 Winter Games from Lillehammer, only with Chinese music dubbed in." Coulture said. "We have every confidence our viewers will find those recycled ceremonies just as fascinating and relevant today as when we first broadcast them."
The tourist, believed to be a relative of either an American air pistol competitor, or a fencer, maintained his innocence as he was loaded into a waiting police vehicle. "It was camouflaged!" he protested. "How are you supposed to see these (expletive deleted) things when they're camouflaged?"
