Array Hagerstown MD It's slightly more than idle curiosity but does anyone know of any fencing clubs in or within commuting distance of Hagerstown Maryland?
And yes Mr. Policeman, I've already checked with the USFA website and the f.net find a club. -

I don't know of any fencing in or near Hagerstown. The closest might be if there is some in West Virginia.
This despite them hosting the (1993?) Nationals.
Also, jjefferies I wouldn't recommend moving there. You strike me as way to blue-state for my Dad's hometown. -

edit: BTW - a quick check of the Maryland Division web site doesn't show anything remotely close to Hagerstown.

Array Hagerstown is in the boonies dude
In all seriousness if you're willing to drive, DC is about an hour/huor and a half away plus traffic. Rockville Fencing Academy is probably closest. You might be better off looking in Pa. -
Everything is a bit of a drive. I live 25 miles north in Chambersburg. We used to have a club going there, but it kind of imploded, and we now meet in Carslisle, which would be about an hour for you. Certainly you would be welcome. For that long a drive, you could get to DCFC in Washington, BFCC in Columbia, or Rockville, as mentioned. PM me for details. Array I think BFC-Timonium (70 to 695) or Rockville (70 to 270) are probably your best bets because you have relatively straight shots on more or less reasonable highways. BFC-Columbia requires taking more different roads to get to it (70 to 29 to local roads, or 70 to 32 to local roads), and DCFC requires either patching together a route on local roads or taking the dreaded DC beltway. -
What weapon(s) do you fence? DCFC has a pretty strong epee cadre with some good saber as well. BFC-Columbia likewise seems to focus mostly on epee. RFA is strong in foil and has some saber but not much epee. -

Array "Out of Nowhere," a Virginia Division club based in Winchester, has classes in Frederick. http://www.geocities.com/swordsmen101/CLASS.html
Otherwise, BFC-Timonium (as previously stated) might be your best choice since it's a straight shot on I-70.
DCFC is a good club, but you'll have to deal with I-270 down toward Washington, and that can be a real hassle depending on the time of day. -

Thanks for the replies guys. Just doing due diligence as there is a small chance of relocating there.
Oh, and I'm a Vet epeeist who tries foil from time to time. -

I'd think heading IN to Rockville on 70 & 270 would be pretty easy in the afternoon/evening, and HELLISH in the morning. -

Array Taken as a state, I suspect MD comes out blue in large part because of the overwhelming weight of the urban areas in Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, and PG counties.
Carroll county, on the other hand, is definitely rather conservative, and with the exception of the city of Frederick, I think Frederick county swings red as well. Hagerstown's in Washington county, but I bet it can't be too much different from Frederick and Carroll because those are similar looking areas.
I don't know much about the remaining sixteen counties, however. -

Somebody mixed up the color palette big time.
