Array What does "SEMI" mean? So, I have a general idea of what the SEMI commission does...
One of the things I've wondered about for quite some time was, why is it called "SEMI"? I've always seen it in all caps; is it an acronym? If so, what does it acronym? If not, what does it mean? -

Commission de la Signalisation Electrique du Matériel et des Installations
Commission on the Marking of Electrical Equipment and Facilities
a better translation of Signalisation would probably be "direction", since street signs in french are "la signalisation" iirc, although thats not how google translate spits it out

Array Very good question! Here in the Midwest people refer to tractor trailer rigs as semis. Semi-what? I can't even remember how LA refers to those vehicles...vans, I think. -

Array SEMI - Smelly Engineers Marching Individually....? That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -

It's a truck with a trailer that only has rear wheels (so it has to rest on those little training wheels when it's not attached to the cab).
Apparently there are full trailers which have front AND back wheels, though I'm not sure I've ever seen one.

Signalisation will be is this case translated by "Signalling".
SEMI is in charge of diverse Homologation`s Certificate and norms like the strips or fencing mats, and most important signalling scoring machines, masks (but not sure), points and wiring of the different armes. -

*** thread drift ends *** Never seen a tractor pulling 2 or even 3 trailers on a highway? The first one is a semi and the followers (with the training wheels) are full trailers.
*** no it doesn't *** Whoopee! My avatar is back. -
