| cruel people. I just came home after sitting next to a dying cat for an hour, that someone ran over then left in the middle of the road. Who does this!!! How can someone be so cruel, its a living animal that you have just hit and left to die! They could have at least called an animal hospital, animal control ---something!!!! This cat was just laying there in its own vomit and feces bleeding across the road and not one person stopped to help it! And then when i am kneeling next to it trying to keep it alive people drive by slower to stare then drive away!!! I don't believe in karma but for that innocent cats sake i hope the people responsible get some retribution for their lack of responsibility and caring! That cat is probably going to be put down to save it from the overwhelming pain it was feeling , there's no way it could survive the way it looked-that is someone's pet-Dead! Because of some idiot- i truly believe there is a special spot in hell for people who murder animals without blinking an eye.

| I don't want to be callous here, but I feel like there's no delicate way to couch it. Here I go.
Next time you run across an animal in that is obviously dying, just kill it. It is the most humane thing to do. It might not feel nice, but doing the right thing doesn't always give you warm fuzzies.

| A nice shovel to the head ought to do it. Most people don't have the injection to kill them peacefully.

| I am so sorry.
We were on our way to meet some friends and we came across a similar situation and the poor cat was trying to get to the side of the road.
I told my friend to pull over and he wouldn't. I said we had to go back. He said it's just a cat and would be dead by the time we got there.
I was so pissed at him. He said we were going to be late. I pointed out that he had a phone.
I was hysterical. I was having such a fit that another friend had to take me home.
It may just be a cat, but who can knowingly turn away from suffering?
I do not know that I am a strong enough person to 'do the right thing' to end the suffering as mentioned above, so I am sure I was not back then.
Mrbiggs? Does your dark sense of houmor really help you deal with your insecurities?

| Dear All,
Thank you for your concern regarding my recent misadventure. I was trying to cross a road and forgot to look both ways resulting in my transition to the great furball in the sky.
I can confirm I hold no grudges to anyone involved and, really, what's done is done and how can one argue with 9 lives? I am peaceful and beyond any earthly responsibilities and I like running and sleeping on clouds.
Kind regards,
A cat in heaven |

| To the people being callous on this thread: WTF? Why do you feel the need to be jerks?
It's easy to say that the OP should've attempted to euthanize the cat, but what do you do if you come across a dying animal and you're bare-handed? It sounds like she called for help and waited with the animal while it arrived. I don't know what else one could do who wasn't conveniently equipped with a lethal injection, a gun, or an edged weapon.
Luckily I've never to my knowledge struck any creature larger than a beetle while driving, but I worry about what I would do if I did. Obviously I couldn't and wouldn't just go off and leave it in pain, but then I have awful visions of unsuccessfully attempting to beat a wounded deer to death with a tire iron. I guess I'd call up the local police and ask them what to do. |

| Okay... point is, anything dying isn't a pretty sight. It's sad that someone would hit it and then leave, because certainly the animal doesn't deserve that. (If it had already thrown up and realeased all of its fluids, if you get what I mean, it was pretty close to death.) But it's every bit as much the owner's fault as well. It's like people that let their dogs out on their own, to wander around and run across streets. It's just common sense. The animal can't always look out for itself; you have to be the responsible one. My dogs are always either on a leash with me or in the backyard, and our cats are completely indoors. The only time they go out is in our backyard, if we're outside and with them, and that's kind of rare. (And our oldest died at 22, go figure.)
Anyway, I've come across so many situations like this... it's really tough. Because the people who say putting it down is the most humane thing to do are technically correct, but killing something is not fun. (Think about it: do you really want to be the last thing that cat or dog or deer or whatever sees? Coming at it with a shovel?) And at most veterinary hospitals, they charge whoever brings the animal in. In my opinion, I think the best you could do would be to take it to a shelter. I mean, you know it won't make it, but at least it gets a more peaceful death.
Or in my case I've brought them home before (my mom, too) if they have any chance at all of making it... We have a turtle from something like that. Her name is Sophia now and she's really friendly She was almost road pizza.

| If it was partially crushed by a car, it'd probably be happy to be hit by something. It's already in a lot of pain, this will just end that pain. You know that you did the right thing, and the animal either will be gone, assuming there is no afterlife, or it will be in heaven and thankful that you did that for it, assuming there is a heaven.

| Thanks for all your input guys, i was very upset after this incident- but to refer to some of the posts:
1)I did believe that the cat was too far gone to save but to have to drag itself out of the middle of the road to die next to it in pain was something i couldn't let happen.
2) Put it in perspective? Really? I am sure that you wouldn't feel the same if it was YOUR pet lying there- and ANY suffering, be it human or animal deserves care and compassion. Period.
3)Don't know what i feel about that "Cat in Heaven" post- be it callous or just light hearted.......
4) And last, I believe that there are many issues surrounding this issue: owner responsibility, societal responsibility, and the problem w/ people refusing to spay and neuter their animals so that there is an abundance of animals on the streets to get ran over. I also think that it is of note that all animals should have tags be they on collars or micro chips- because your pet CAN get lose and if something horrible like this happens you would never know. The cat last night did not have any tags or collar at all, so it''s owner will never know how or when their animal did die.

| I know this isn't exactly about animals, but I feel it could go under a cruel people thread.
I know a couple that had been going out for 10 months, they did everything together. I personally disliked both the people, but the guy could be sweet when he tried. He adored her, and she honestly treated him like crap.I know it was a highschool relationship and all, but no matter what kind of relationship it was she had no right to do that. I don't know why he stuck around, apparently he "loves" her. But yeesh, his own stupidity i marked it off as. Now today she broke up with him over facebook. How low can you get? (on facebook you can have it say who you are in a relationship with and when you break up it informs the world, great idea huh :P ?)
Anyway. That just really bothered me.
How hard is it to go and break up with someone in person, if you really dont give a care at all anyways?

| I'm talking to the boy right now. He lost most of his friends cause she was such a moose, and he would stand by her. What a life lesson for him... . Anywho, he even planned their one year, he had no idea this was coming. He was going to take her to saratoga for a two day horse race. (she races) And I think two months may be a little early to plan something, but with their relationship at the moment, no one thought this would happen.
I personally DISPISE this girl. :\
