| Running for Office: It's Like A Flamewar with a Forum Troll, but with an Eventual Win Okay, the titlebar is a bit too short. It should read "Running for Office: It's Like A Flamewar with a Forum Troll, but with an Eventual Winner".
I saw this on the LJ of another FNetter and figured I'd toss it up here. http://seantevis.com/kansas/3000/run...ce-xkcd-style/

| I am very much tempted to donate to him, but won't because 1. I have no idea what his platform is except that he hates the same things I do 2. I have very little stake in the election. 3. He's kind of pandering to the internet crowd with the xkcd, rickrolling, napoelean dynamite, the 300, and "downmodding." This makes me suspicious of him. |

| Whoa. I am in awe of that comic. Thanks for posting the link! It does my heart good to see a firebreathing progressive duking it out with a hateful moron like Rep Siegfreid. I worked a bunch of overtime this month... come payday I'll see how much "extra" I got and see about sharing a li'l of the wealth (ha) with Tevis.
P.S. As the icing on the cake, Tevis has the endorsement of P.Z. Myers, whose opinon I've come to strongly respect.
P.P.S. In a sense, we all have a stake in all the elections that occur in this country, even on the state rep level. We'll turn this country blue one district at a time, baby! *determined* |

Hopefully long enough for the GOP to get its act back together. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:U..._by_county.jpg |

Perhaps it's Siegfried's advocacy of unfettered government surveillance that floats your boat? | That was not his point, though. His point was not about the advantages of Siegfried, it was that there are a lot of republican counties out there. The linked picture showed that there are a lot of GOP counties, and at least 2 states are completely red. If you propose to change the country "one district at a time" - and if one interprets that as one and only one change (red->blue) every 2-year election cycle, then it takes 398 years until the HofR is completely blue. And by then all of both you and I are dead.
To boot, that calculation does not account for the fact that a substantial proportion of the current 199 GOP seats represent districts (Utah, Oklahoma, various parts of the Rockies, etc.) which are so red so that the democrats have no chance at all to win them. Furthermore, since people tend (not always, but often enough so that it is relevant) to move from places where they are in the political minority to places where that are in the majority more often than the reverse move, this safe seat phenomenon will become more entrenched, and no party can hope to hold the HofR all to itself. Back to fencing. It would be interesting (and possibly instructional) if all USFA clubs where to be noted with map pins (as done in Google maps) on that blue vs. red counties map.
Have a nice time!

He got the donations, but when it comes to actually voting, the age group he's targeting has the got one of the most inversely proportional relationships of whining about what needs to be changed vs. putting your money where your mouth is and actually voting.
