It's interesting circles one finds in the fencing community. My wife passed this URL to me asking if I knew the gentleman in the following post: http://www.elfquest.com/forum/viewto...er=asc&start=0
Took me a minute to connect it with an old salle mate and I replied not very well but here's a self portrait of his younger sister, Marin.
Heh....if you ever find any pics of the EQ group at the 1984 WorldCon...I was the one dressed as Bearclaw. Wendy herself said I had the best version she'd seen up to that time!
Ahhh....if only I had been aware that the VERY cute girl dressed as Nightfall was hitting on me every day of the con.....
If anyone has any pics of the group, SEND 'EM! I only have a precious few.
Best moment (aside from Wendy's comment) was right after the masquerade. One of the entrants had done a VERY nice Joyleaf costume, and I went to the picture area to try and tell her so (I believe her name was Robyn)...so she makes it to the end of the gauntlet, sees me, walks over and by way of introduction says "Whether you want it or not, you're stuck with me for the rest of the con."
The amount of photographers who clustered around us as we restaged the BC/JL back cover pose was pretty big!

Man, You gotta lay off the joy juice! Awareness, timing, distance, tempo just like in fencing.

I kept in touch with her for a few years....
You BELIEVE? her name was... As a coach I think you need some work here!
Ok, That's understandable. We all have those. There was that one young lady I shared a train compartment with from London to Zurich and couldn't get the nerve up to respond to her signals. Best that I not remember her name.

Heh....what was REALLY sad was every time we met we were in full costume...that could've been the fulfillment of any NUMBER of fantasies!!
Right side pics, 3rd pic down...back row, far right, next to poor Seth, playing Tyldak....he couldn't do ANYTHING for himself while in costume! We had to feed him! And teh sail on top of his head REALLY caught the wind when he went outside the convention center.

Sail, Sail Away! Shame the resolution wasn't better in those pics. Better to see you.
This is so weird...I almost forgot that the new Elfquest Archives were available now. They were out of print in color for a long time. I had bought the first volume but kind of forgot about it. The fourth one is out now...pricey at $34 on Amazon, but better than the $50 cover price. I'm concerned this might be another limited run of books so I'm going to go to Amazon right now and buy the other three volumes!!!
Here's an EQ 'con story: In 2000 I was in San Diego for training and just happened to be timed with SD Comic-Con. I hadn't thought about EQ for about 15 years by then, but I passed a table where Wendy and Richard Pini were sitting. I saw the artwork, a flood of memories returned and I expressed to Wendy how much I admired her artwork. She looked more annoyed than pleased, and said something like, "You know, Richard here helped too." Oh well. I still think she's awesome.
Purple, I only ever read the first quest. Are any of the other quests worth reading?
Let's see.... 25 years ago? I don't think I even knew about EQ then. I discovered it as a young teenager while working the summer of 84? 85? at a science fiction/fantasy bookstore in my neighborhood in Baltimore. I stopped reading after the first series (fighting the trolls, then getting to the palace... the original set of comics - forget the name now), but I found that in various online games/communities it was easy to go by an uncommon name not readily taken by others that had some meaning to me... Tyldak. So glad to hear they are (FINALLY) doing a movie!
