Olympic Prediction #1 - Medaling countries

    Hi!

How many different countries will get a medal in the fencing events of the Beijing Olympic games?

Better yet, can you predict which ones?

    Have a nice time!

Half way through individual events, the count is 5. Thus far, we have multiple medals by the same country in 2 out 3 events. Don't forget that Team events will have 3 different countries per event.

Actually, Mariel will be representing Notre Dame*, Sada will be representing the United States and Becca will be representing Oregon**. I expect a sweep.

Kelley Hurley will be representing A Fencing.Net Meme. Her country code will change to FDN for the team event.

    * They totally act like they're their own country in NCAA football
** Puerto Rico gets an Olympic Team...

Had to edit a little to get away that idiotic sorting by total# of medals

Anyway, 13 countries medaled. USA better than China, but not so much that it matters in the total medal count, since China is far ahead in golds. (Now, USA is leading the pack by a big margin in Bronzes - that is why NBC is talking up the total#medals metric.)

Nobody guessed right, but edew, erooMynohtnA, JEC were the closest at 10 medaling countries.

I guess that this was an incorrect assumption
"who do you think you are?"
"Do you think by making someone a knight, you make them a better fighter?"
    "Yes"

And, I called it for MST, which most people didn't believe. Note also my call for WFI: Italy, Korea, Italy. The big disappointment (heh-heh) was China. I figured they would get more medals, just because they're the host country and lots of support from the home crowd. Apparently they choked big time. Completely choked. Yeah, great for Man Zhong in MS, but really, the rest of the very talented chinese fencers didn't produce at all.

Off to official homeland correctional camp for them all.
