| The problem is in the fact, by summer nationals most of the top referee's have used up most of their vacation time and sick leave to do the NAC's, JO's, international events and then nationals. It is a matter of developing the next level of higher level referees and you cannot do that unless they are worked with and given stronger bouts to challenge them. Ask any of the top referees and they will tell you this is what had to be done to help them to climb to the next level. I don't think it is quite the fact about the referee fee's more than it is for them to get the time. Now as an organizer the dollar has a huge impact and for the next two years if not more, we as an organization will have to respect that as we dig out of the red.
And yes, Youth events at the Summer Nationals are not championship events. That's how it is currently outlined.

| Back to the "Good Life" theme... My "Good Life at SN 08" came on Sunday, for the STMWS event.
'Cause EVERYONE in the venue that day could hear my team. We had a *lot* of fun, accomplished all of our goals (have fun, win the first bout, and get beaten by Nellya), had the biggest cheering section in the building. We had never fenced team before, never competed as a club, it was my first Summer Nationals... AWESOME time.
And then we heard about how "inspiring" and "motivating" (exact quotes) our performance had been because it had been a long time since folk had seen a team having so much fun.

Congrats on reaching your goals
