Bad Judging at summer nationals There were some terrible refs that completely blew calls in the summer nationals. One female ref blew many calls, and anybody who saw the Zain Shaito vs. Steve Kubik in teams should know. Also a ref today gave me 8 yellow cards so basically 7 points against me, IMO all were bad calls (they were that i was turning my back). This ref also ended 3 matches by giving a red card when the opposite fencer had 14 points. He also lost the match for another kid by giving him a red card for not having enough tape. -
gother than thou
Array 8 cards all for the same offense.
you're not very bright, are you? Good plan, blaming the ref :-/ Thru the darkness of Future Past

Perhaps you mean 1 yellow and 7 red cards?
At what point did you decide you should stop doing whatever it was he saw as turning the back?

What does that have to do with anything? -

Other than the last one (where either the same amount of tape had been there for the whole bout or it happened during the bout and thus isn't cardable), they all sound like correct applications of the rules, which means you're asking me to go on your opinion of the validity of the call... so my question is:
Who are you that I should trust your opinion of the reffing?

Array Honestly, I seem to disagree with you on your opinion that at the pinnacle of all national events in this country, rules don't need to be properly enforced. "When Fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and bearing a cross." -

Calls against you != bad reffing
"Too many cards" != bad reffing
Continuing to do the same thing that the ref is penalizing you for/not calling in your favor != proving a point
I really wish people would learn and remember these things. -

Fencer has a yellow card for something previous, red card ends the bout. Entirely possible, really... but still the fault of the fencer who presented the nonconforming weapon. -

Steven, a few things:
1. The previous posters were right, you should have adapted long before getting carded that many times even if the ref had been calling it incorrectly.
2. Having seen you fence many times, I think you just got a ref that called this tighter than the lax way you've gotten used to down here.
The problem isn't the reffing at Nationals; it's the reffing down here. "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent."

Walking past Escrime du Lac fencing a team match at San Jose made me picture a Bill Cosby sketch:
"Noah, I want you to build me a foil team. Make it 3 Kubiks by 1 non-Kubik"

3. It's probably not a good idea to complain here unless you already have a small cadre of supporters ready to back you up. -
