Banning "Members"

I know that for some providers, the option to ban certain screen names (thru the computers) is available. There was talk of this when several authors from my former publishing house tried to log on to their new message board. I sincerely hope that Craig considers doing this. While I fully support the right to state one's opinion, or discuss things in a mature way, I will never support the supposed "right" that anyone thinks that have to harass, attack, or harm another person. With rights come responsibility. If you can't handle yourself in a proper way, then you need your rights terminated immediately.

Post away, but try to have some respect for others...and yourself.

Whoo-hoo! I agree! It's one thing to have fun with the story or whatever....it's totally another thing to be nasty and spiteful and mean. I do NOT approve of someone deliberately trying to hurt people or cause trouble, as someone who shall remain nameless <cough-GW> has been doing.

Well said Ron, and thank you for your opinion. I consider Craig webmaster over the entire fencing.net board. He IS like the Director of the bout(actually more like the bout committee) I have not been put in any position of authority over this site(fantasy land). Sometimes I use my influence in situations when they get out hand. Ive already done that with this thing with GW.
Its really all that i can do.
We dont really expect Craig to read every post on fantasy land. We do believe that there are enough of us of decent character and good values to know when the line is crossed and we are fully capable of policeing(sp) ourselves. If its something we cant control then we go to Craig. Ive asked GW to remove the entire story. Ive given him 2 days. Ive also informed Craig of the story and how the majority here(fantasy land) feel that its improper. Im confident the right thing will be done in the end.

We all know I don't contribute to this part of fencing.net, but this development is something I need to speak up to.

I did not read GW's original post that was considered in the realm of tasteless, but he was good enough to change it after protests. And he is definitely OK in my book for his obvious acknowledgement of the situation and action that he took to resolve it.

Craig is also already in the position to eliminate posts or topics that are in poor taste (i.e., "Naked Pics" in the Water Cooler section). So if GW didn't take the steps to tone down his post, Craig would have taken it. I also think having some sort of "ignore" feature is not something that should be in a bulletin board-style chat. I highly disapprove of banning people from this board in any form or fashion.

This is fantasy. Yes, he made some changes but the ENTIRE thing was out of line in the first place. The honorable thing to do would have been to take it all out. Space at least had the decentcy(sp) to sometimes remove his entire post from a thread.
Noone here respected the direction of his story and the sexual aspects of it.

Scarlet, from one woman to another, I will have to say that you ARE right. He was good enough to change it. I'm thankful for that. But I will say that, regardless of his modus operandi, what was originally posted was beyond the pale. Otherwise, why would he change it?

What troubled me most was the use of myself & my best friend in such a situation. Young people read this board. My students, my friends (Lord Tellurine, MStaub, RedSectorA, HilandDoug), & my collegues in the Michigan Division visit here. I felt like I was being put on display. Prostituted, if you will. No woman should feel that way. In a way, I felt as though I had been raped for all to see. That's not the image that needed to be portrayed here.

You see, scarlet, due to my writing I am in the public eye. Maybe I'm more sensitive to these things, but I was concerned for my safety. Suppose someone read it, visited my website, & found me...then decided to act out what he had read? See, I have to think of these things, far fetched or not. That's part of being known.

But I WILL say thank you again to G.W. for having the decency to remove what he had previously written. Everyone, please move on. I'm okay. Really. Thanks for your concern & support. But it's time to move on.
