We have public firework displays. Here's what's needed in Ireland before you can legally get fireworks for personal use:

Furthermore you must confirm to the Department:

* That all operators used in the display are competent, in accordance with the guidance document.
* That adequate public liability insurance is in place.
* That you have consulted the local authority Fire Officer.
* That you have consulted the local Gardaí.
* That you have consulted with all other relevant interested parties, for example, your neighbours.

The Swedish National day, June 6th, was until quite recently an ordinary working day. I have never seen it celebrated with fireworks - more like a small parade of local dignitaries and a speech in the town park, to a quite small audience.
The Norwegian National day, May 17th, is celebrated much more throughly. Don´t know of any fireworks. Norway was occupied by the Germans during WWII, and had only become a country of their own in 1904 after having been governed by foreign powers (Denmark, Sweden) since the early 13th century. In contrast, Sweden has governed itself since 1521, not had foreign belligerent armies on its heartland since the late 18th century, and not been in a war since 1814 (or 1809? I forget).
Back in the 1770ies, Sweden followed French wishes with regard to diplomatic actions. When it became known in Europe the the North American colonies were rebelling against England, Sweden did help the rebelling army, sort of. When the rebellion sent out Mr. Franklin to enlist European aid, he came to Stockholm, and he did get a considerable sum from the Swedish state. Not only that, the British ambassador was made to look at it when the bag of money was handed over.

Generally when you combine drinking beer with a holiday, you get world-wide acceptance.

I saw 6 UFOs on the 4th of July. They were not fireworks. They were round, red lights hovering in a narrow V formation/moving periodically.
