| Can you describe how the shoe feels and weighs? Shoes like that look like theyy would be good for epee fencers but not so good for foilists and sabreurs.
The footwork is very different.

| That photo makes them look fat. I saw a bunch of the Italian foilists using them in Vegas, and they look similar to the Asymmetrics.

| They're remarkably similar to the Adidas Feather III. The good news, I have the Feathers and they're nice; nicest for epee, but acceptable for foil and saber. The bad news, Adistars are $100 more for no good reason. http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/desc...AS-ACCF3M.html
Prognosis: don't waste your money. Get the Feather.

| Any chance of finding the feather in a sporting goods store? Is it specifically a tennis shoe? I'd like to try one.

| They look like indoor soccer shoes to me. My kids have been using indoor soccer shoes and they like 'em. I would rather pay $50 than $200. At the rate my kids go thru shoes...I can get four pairs for the price of one....and at the local sports store.

| I've been using Samba indoor soccer shoes... They're ok, except that they have so little padding that unless I wear two pairs of socks my feet are very sore after fencing in them.

| Tee hee A thread about shoes that I didnt start...
And you guys say that I don't care about your sanity or well being
That said the feather is remarkably similar. However, on either the shoe in question or the feather it seems that the heel is jacked up a little higher than the forefoot which makes it troublesome to the lower back, IMHO.
Still, the feather is a very light shoe and much good can come of it. Looks cool.
Can't believe I agree with Moore on this but the shoes ARE too similar for the price difference.

| I think you are dead on.
I know that their thinking was influenced by the popularity of the Stabils, but those are not fencing shoes.
I'm glad I have a closet full of Asymns to last me until the next version.

| Actually, if you go to a good Dick's or other sporting good store Feathers are not terribly hard to find. Which incarnation of the Feather you find may be up for grabs though. Often some version of the ClimaCool Feather II or III is available IIRC. Those just include a wicking lining. If you buy the women's version it'll usually have a less beefed up heel but still provide adequate cushioning. Plus you get nice pastel and neon color schemes

| I managed to find Stabils at a City Sports once. Finding odd shoes at a sporting goods store is always possible, but not always likely. Quote:

whats the best type of shoe to fence saber? | There's no easy answer. How are your feet? Ankles? Knees? Lower back?
Many people with joint pain want shoes with a bunch of cushioning, and will go after racquetball (ie adidas stabils) or tennis shoes (ie adidas feathers). Some will even go for basketball shoes.
Other people will find that a thin sole is better for them, as they have a better sense of where the floor is. They'll more often go for a Fencing Specific shoe, an indoor soccer shoe, or some of the stylish and poorly made sneakers not actually meant for athletic use.
Go to "search" in the darker green area above. Then look for shoes. there are a lot of threads you can read about it. There are a lot of opinions, because there isn't one right answer.
I will tell you that I've been happy with the Stabils for both epee and sabre. Quote:

Is the "urban climbing" shoe actually meant for rock climbing???

| hmmm...I guess someone who has seen my footwork would have to
have a say but for whatever reason I tend to hate shoes that other
epeeists like. Like the Stabil, etc.
And these look like I'd not like them. Quote:
