Array Sabre lames: AF Ultralight vs. AF Signature I'm in the market for a sabre lame. Sabre is my secondary weapon so I'm not looking to spend big bucks on a lame, but as an epee fencer I sweat my balls off quite easily without a lame on. So I'm in the market for a lightweight sabre lame that is not too expensive. I like the looks of the AF Ultralight, and it falls within my price range, when I noticed the new AF signature lame. The claims on the website are basically that it has high durability. That sounds appealing to me especially since it's only a few bucks more than the Ultralight (signature on an introductory sale). I was wondering however if anybody has any experience with the signature sabre lame. Also if anybody could tell me if the signature lame is significantly "heavier" than the lightweight?
Also, if there are any suggestions in this price range that would meet my other concerns (namely, lightweight) I would appreciate it. -

Array The signature is a stainless lame. As such, it will be a lot heavier than the ultralight. -

Array I would not get the AF Ultralight until it's lifetime issue appears to be fixed. They say they fixed it, but we don't have enough experience to know if it's well and truly fixed.
You might look at the BG ultralight. It's kinda like the LP ultralight, which is my current favorite. So far, I have not seen any significant problems with the BG.
There is also the Triplette ultralight.
Your basic medium quality stainless steel lame will last if you clean it. If you sweat a lot and don't clean it, it won't last very long. I'd go that way to start. -

This is true, my french suppliers told me that the material lifespan is greatly improved in the last batch, I don't have enough data yet to correlate with theirs, the Signature Series Lames have MUCH higher thread counts then the "major european" brands, This lame may replace my Uhlmann but I haven't played with it enough yet.
