Referee Seminar at SN

I see that the referee seminar is being given twice in San Jose and I have some questions.

1. How long are the classes?
2. Do you think the MF Jr Team event will finish before 7PM on the 3rd?
3. When are the tests being given? right after the seminar on the same day?
4. Where do you get the manual to study for the exam?
5. What's the cost and can we pay and register at SN?

Sorry for asking so many questions but my son is thinking of taking the seminar since he has the time this year.

Thanks in advance......

1)Most ref seminars last roughly 8 hours.
2)Beats the heck outta me
3)Usually the test is given every single day I think, I could be mistaken.
4)You most likely can pay and register at the event itself. (Maybe the 1 thing at a NAC you can register at the door for) Most seminars range in price from $40-75. I would expect something in that general ballpark.

The seminar starts at 7PM and it's for two consecutive days. So, the class is going to end around 11PM each day? That doesn't sound feasible for athletes to do ....take the seminar and fence the next day, that is.

In the athlete's packet it says that the Ref seminars are free. The sessions are listed to be from 7-10:30pm.

The written exams are 11am daily, and are $10/session, which is refunded if you pass....so if you go to the seminar, and pass the exam on the first go, you pay nothing for all of it!

Oh, and the study guide is here: http://www.fencingofficials.org/Docu...06_Edition.pdf

And most importantly, the current rule-book can be found here:

Rulebook

To get the most out of the seminar and have a good chance of passing, one should have a decent understanding of the first third (the "technical rules"). As with any non-trivial subject, just cramming the night before is not sufficient!

Make sure to download the study guide (link given above). The exam questions are taken directly from there. Good luck!

Read each question carefully, do not assume any information, look up the answer in the Rules, even if you think that you know the answer....even if you are correct, the exact wording of every Rule is important and may make the difference in an actual situation...
