27 year absence from fencing

Hi y'all.
I fenced for a couple years in college in Texas. I loved it. For the past 25 years, any time I saw something about fencing I would want to fence again. Well, this January I finally took it up again and am loving every minute of the relearning.

It is a great sport and I am excited to be fencing again.

Welcome! I did almost exactly the same thing, in TX no less, but you have me beat as I was out for 19 years. Give yourself some props for picking it up again - you're going to have a great time. I also predict you will find it a much deeper sport than you ever imagined in college.

Thanks for the welcome.
I knew I had just scratched the surface those many years ago. It was fun but I knew there was so much more to it. I realized early that I could out fence more by staying calm and observing my opponent than charging in. I just couldn't process the information quick enough to always know what to do. Now I get the chance to really dig in and learn the art.

BilbosBlade,
My story is very similar. This past April, I returned from a 25 year hiatus. I've already competed in 5 tournaments and had a great time. I'll be at the Veterans Nationals in a few weeks. The changes to the sport have made it better, in my opinion, and the people are just great.
My only free advice is find a good club and take lessons fequently. You're still on the steep part of the learning curve, which is really fun.
Hope to see you on the strip.

Regards,

Bill

where did you fence in Texas and what years? I knew most of the foilists in the state between 1967 and 1972 when I moved. We might know some of the same folks. Welcome back. Where are you now?

Same deal here! I am in Delaware and 18 years ago our fencing club
disbanded and I have been longing to get back into it. Just recently
some folks have been trying to get a club started again. Looking forward
to getting back into the game. I am not as svelt as I was or young but
can not think of a greater way to get into shape physically or mentally!!
Nice to be aboard!

I find your name hilarious, just because I've seen so many inappropriate corruptions of it...

haha. Welcome.
