Personally, I think that I'd prefer for the fencer to evaluate the coach's advice, decide that it wasn't working, and go with their own plan.
What use is a fencer who blindly follows obviously bad advice? I think the coach was still in the information-gathering stage with the student at the time.
I'm honestly not sure why I heard the conversation at all.... -

AE Now why did I pause for a moment to get a mental image of such a student fencing on water? (electrical of course) You probably would be too "shocked" to utter any coaching instructions!
Ok! I am nuts! But, in my defense, I was tapped slightly once on my mask by a sabre coach. (I was fencing foil!) That affected my brain cells thereafter!
