Greetings fellow fencers! I am new to this sport.

I had my first fencing lesson and I am extremely excited to get started! Of course we only worked on feet, but I stayed late and watched the instructors bout- very impressive!
I have a few questions about equipment. What are the best websites to order from? What kind of grip do you suggest for a beginner? (grip, hilt; whatever you call it)
The club is letting us use their equipment, but I do eventually want my own so I can practice at home. (My mother is also taking fencing!) I only need information on foil for now because it will be some time before I move on to the others Thanks.

You're a foilist right? If not, stop reading, close this window, and quit life.

Depends on what's near you, if you don't want to go there and want delivery, fencing.net is always good, blue gauntlet and absolute are also good for basic fencing gear.

Pistol (and it's variations) and French are the most common, try botha nd take your pick.

You WON'T want to fence the others once you start foil. Foil is what the cool kids fence. Foil is what champions are found fencing on Mt. Olympus. There is nothing to a foil-less life. Mark my words, (and tattoo them on yourself) Foil is the best weapon. If you even consider the other 2 'weapons'.

Welcome to the forum!

Someday, I swear, I'll duct tape you to the wall, then poke you with your own foil.

Right now, just work on your footwork, make sure your have the correct form (for months or even years if you could, before you ever touch a foil.)

French, but switch to pistol when you are ready for competitions.

Welcome to the fourm.

I highly recommend the grip with the sabre attached to it. If you get the chance, watch and/or try all three weapons.

Welcome to the forums!

I'd talk to your coach about equipment. He/she will know what's best for you, may be able to get you the equipment at a discount, and help you size it properly.
