    bay cup season points

    Hi,

These questions pertain to the Bay Cup:

Are there prizes awarded to season winners for Senior events and Youth events?

Also, how much are the cash prizes, up to what place are cash prizes awarded to?

Just curious about the way season points and Bay Cup work.

    Thanks.

There are no "cash" prizes. There will be prizes in the form of gift certificates. They will be from about $170-$200 for first place to about $55-70 for eighth place. Prizes are awarded for top-8 in each event category.

Vets will get a separate set of prizes courtesy of Wine Spies.

Overall, we plan to give out about $18,000 worth of gift certificates.

Eric, is there going to be a picnic or something this year?

I'm thinking about it, but I've got a bunch of stuff on my plate at this time. Maybe you can head it. One suggested an all-nighter laser tag at LaserQuest in Mountain View.

    Initiative is punishable?
My wife might have some objections related to all-nighter with oh about 100% probability. So might some youngsters' parents. Are you sure getting fencers to play a team sport is a good idea?
Seriously, I love laser tag idea for small group of people. How many would you expect to attend, based on previous years? If we get more than 50 people, laser tag stops sounding as attractive, and I would rather just book a group area somewhere like Huddart park, or Tilden park.

The vets points are very close for the top 8. Jere B. and Mike P. have first and second locked in respectively. But there is less than a 300 point spread between 3 and 8, if you drop the low and then accumulate scores.

Thanks to wine spy, the next Vets is going to be a real race for the prize wine ..... It better not be Chardonne .....

Some of the other events look pretty close too. Although it looks like D and under Epee is pretty wrapped up.

Historically (and it's almost pre-history nowadays), only the top-8 fencers attend the get-together, whether it's picnic or whatever. Those who don't make the top-8 usually stay home (despite being able to come anyway). And those who are from far away don't go to the picnic either.

So for an all-nighter laser tag, I really doubt anyone from Sacramento or Fresno will come, and maybe just top-4 or so from juniors on up.

with ~20 categories juniors on up, that makes it about 80 to 160 people. considering time commitments, driving distance, etc. maybe 40 to 80 (or less) would show up - is that reasonable?

That makes laser tag marginally manageable. I'll PM you my contact info.
