Array Wanted: Scoring equipment Hi! My club recently received a small grant, and I need to purchase a scoring machine and reels. The grant won't cover a full-price basic model, so I am wondering if anyone has a used set in good working condition they would like to sell. I have a $500.00 budget.
Thanks! -

Array That amount would be sufficient to purchase on of the new "Firefly" machines, and construct a bungee based reel system.
Good luck. Take your time. Read carefully. -

Array Thanks! I've just started looking at some of the bungee-based systems, like the one from PBT or from TCA. They certainly look more affordable, as long as I can make them portable. I've seen some posts regarding taping the plates down with gaffer's tape, and some other ideas. -

Array I just got an email from Leon Paul on the 14th with specials for May.
"35% OFF The Complete set club Foil, Epée and Sabre"
That would be $800 including their standard free shipping.
This is what we've got - if I were buying, I'd try to come up with an extra $300 and save the trouble of the bungee system.
When we received ours, we plugged the batteries in and started fencing within an hour.
Check with the LP USA guys for more details. I just wish they'd had this back in January when we got ours.... -
The USFA contract for equipment will be up after Summer Nationals. Blue Gauntlet should be offering reels and boxes at a discount then. You might take the reels and grab an Eigertek or Firefly box. I'm not too impressed with SG boxes. -

Array Good to know about the special and when BG might have discounted reels available.
I looked at our space again and I doubt a bungee system would work, as we don't have enough length for a full strip.
Thanks! -

Array Well, the good news is that Blue Gauntlet has used reels for sale at a good price...the bad news is that I am still waiting for the grant check from USFA
Ah, well, I cannot complain about the delay. I know USFA has had some budget issues. -

Array Well, I finally received the grant check from USFA in November. I gave up on a scoring system, and went for electric weapons and such instead. I managed to put together 3 electric foils, 4 electric epees, got a few body cords, some miscellaneous parts, and two of the Favero buzzer boxes thanks to Absolute's club discount. Now I can at least do slightly more realistic bouting, and I have fencers willing to spring the money to enter a tournament now that they are spared the cost of a weapon. It all worked out fairly well. -

Array Just as a note:
You don't need full length strips to make the bungees work. Its quite easy to just tie off the bungee to the length you want.*
By quite easy, I mean when its all hooked up, you grab it, tie a knot, and ur good to go... "Sir, didn't I parry"
"You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."
(I guess i should have romanced it a bit more..." -
Well I have found some sets online, maybe have people that go to your club bring money for these, more money to use/learn on electric. http://www.absolutefencinggear.com/s...54e424ce27c2c8 Similar Threads -
