    German Retaining Clip Screw

The retaining clip on my Negrini German-style body cord fell apart at practice tonight. I recovered all the parts except the screw. Does anyone know a good place / means to get a similiar screw without purchasing a new retaining clip package from a fencing vendor?

Find a store that carries metric bolts and take the cord there...they should be able ot find one with the right thread and pitch....you can always get a long one and cut it to length.

The screw for an Uhlmann/Allstar retainer is a 2 mm x 5 mm cheese head screw, although that doesn't mean that the Negrini is the same. The type of head, as long as it isn't flat head, isn't too important.

Your local US hardware store may well have a 2 mm screw if it has the usual aisle with all the little boxes. If you get a longer length and shorten it, I would recommend you do it with a Dremel or at least bevel the cut end with a sharpening stone. Just cutting a screw with a pair of cutters can leave an end that is very hard to start.

Some of the less expensive body cords/plugs may have a screw thread different from the 2 mm.

Thank you both for the info and suggestions. I'll see what I can find.

You might also try is a model shop. They generally stock smaller sizes than many hardware stores.

For a really short term fix (and I do mean short term, as the fit isn't terribly good) just nick a screw from an LP bayonet guard socket. The last one i did has only lasted about ten years, and the only reason the owner knows about it is because it was brought up at a club AGM when they tried to make me the armourer.

    While your at it

You could just switch to LP all together. Even their 2 prong is loads better than Uhlmann, specially for saber.

I finally told my coach I wouldnt fix Uhlmanns anymore. Since he loves them HE can fix them. Let's see how much he loves them then.

I use Lp bayonet since I dont fence saber enough. If I did I'd switch to their 2 prong.

Time and again I've said it, they make the best bodycords in the in the world, IMHO.

It would take someone from LP to provide the last word. To my best knowledge they have used different screws at different times. At one time 2-56 screws seemed to fit well. Present bayonet sockets seem to use neither 2-56 or 2 mm.
