Long, long ago, in the days of visually judged foil, we were taught to acknowledge touches. It was a matter of sportsmanship. Later we found out that the rules didn't require the directors (as they were called then) or side judges to pay attention to our acknowledgement. Now, apparently, acknowledging a touch is considered gauche or manipulative. How sad. |

| It makes me scratch my head when people on f.net spend so much time on a thread arguing with one person's opinion (about acknowledging touches or kneeling for weapon inspection) instead of contributing to the spirit of the thread.
It makes me scratch my head (and laugh a bit) when kids or people who are obviously new to fencing get really mad at themselves after someone who is a lot better hits them. |

I could explain it further, but since my joke wasn't even that funny the first time around, I think I'll skip that and just let folks reread the thread in case they didn't get it the first time. |

But let's not discuss this any longer. Quote:

| I had two tips break (as in part of it flys out of the barrel and you don't notice) in two days! It never happened before that, and suddently, it happened twice in two days. In both cases, costing me the bought. (Yeah, I know that I should've checked my tip after the first time thought I hit and it didn't register, but it just didn't occur to me that my tip had broken).

In foil, you would have known something was wrong.

Tipscrews still in place, wires still working...
Foil: Having the guard shake loose (somehow) and fly off during a coupe, thwacking the opponent square in the mask...
Then again there's the always popular complete weapon disintegration... |

The most head scratching thing I've had happen to me was a run of four foils in a row(in an hour too) breaking in exactly this measure. Granted they were all club foils, but still head scratching for me at least. |
