Maged had qualified for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 as had the foil team which was to be Mag, Walid Mahran, and Mauro Hamza. Egypt decided that they weren't going to send a team. Walid and Hamza were already in the US coaching and Mag was willing to come to Atlanta on his own dime, and they appealed to the Egyptian OC but to no avail.

I worked with a reporter at the AJC and we had a story written up about it and tried to find a way to have Egypt allow them to compete, but that didnt' work out.

So, he was qualified for the Games but did not compete in the 1996 Games.
