Array Scrap Metal Alright, so do any of you deal in scrap metal? I'm thinking of dealing in it a little this summer.
I brought 1,100 pounds of No.2 scrap steel up to our local steel yard the day before yesterday, I made $80 off the load.
Scrap metal is booming, the price has rocketed up from what it was a few years ago. My local yard is paying $155 per ton of LTL No.2, and copper should be hitting $4/pound soon.
I got this recent load off of our farm, and there's more where it came from, but after it's gone I would start buying off of other farms around here. If things went well enough, I know where I can get a decent used dump truck relatively cheap, but that's only if this goes well. I've made a few deals for hauling some off of other people's farms, so I'm pretty well set for the near future. I have a few of our old electric motors in my shop where I'm getting the copper out.
So anyway, any thoughts? Advice? Mess with my cows and I'll break your knees U.S. OUT OF VERMONT More Cowbell -

Array I have seen people going to local trailer parks and stripping off the siding to sell. It's not even their trailer. "Because I'm the mom, that's why."-- every good mom in history "You are the f.net mom" Sword Hobbit "as long as you don't call me the 'f.ing mom" Nicksmom -

Array You should look to get all the carbide you can. With the tough winter in China and the fact they still have lots of building to do for the upcoming big event this summer, they are buying all the carbide they can get. We have seen ridiculous rates given, up to $20 a pound in some cases but usually around $15 a pound. If you can 'acquire' some carbide do so and find you local scrap dealer how much they are paying. -

Array All of this talk of scrap brings to mind the broken blades that i have laying around and that the salle throws away by the bushel...Is there any way to benefit from those? Hell, someone has to want these thin metal bars that I have laying around.

Old cutting bits might have some in them, no?
You sound like you're in the metal business...i'm looking for a good place to buy an oxy-acetylene set up. Know of any places where I might look? I need one because I made a deal for some old farm machinery and I need to cut it up to haul it away. (No, I do not garden and have no use for FIE tomato stakes.) Well, if you can get a LOT together, steel is fetching about $155 per ton around here... Mess with my cows and I'll break your knees U.S. OUT OF VERMONT More Cowbell -

Array I just bought a 6,000 watt generator for $20 yesterday. The guy I got it from works at a company that makes them and it's almost brand new, hardly used.
It's just missing a small regulator part, so I'm trying to decide if I should strip the copper out of it or try and get this part and get it running again, and sell it.
It has a massive amount of copper in it, so I believe it would pay the $20 back easily, and I don't know how much this part would cost, or even if that is the only thing I need to get it running. Mess with my cows and I'll break your knees U.S. OUT OF VERMONT More Cowbell Similar Threads -
