Array I have exams coming up. FOR CLASSES THAT I TOOK LAST YEAR. The International Bacheloriat Organization is insane. It has a lot of stupid requirments.
There are certain classes that we need to take, and some of them need to be two year long classes (all of those classes require taking exams and, having taken both AP and IB classes, IB are about twice as hard), and because of this, almost our entire sceduel is made up of them. Each exam is worth a total of 7 points, and you need to get a total of 24 to get the diploma, and you can't get a 2 or below on any of your two year tests. You also can't take ANY of the tests until junior year, and then only one year tests, and only two of them.
Then we need to do 50 hours each of community service, athletics, and art. And we need to write a 4000 word extended essay (not that bad, depending on the topic) plus special papers for some of our classes. The requirments for the papers, expecially the history one, are really screwed up. In the history paper, the analysis and the information need to be separate. So you have like a bulleted list of facts, and your paper is based on those.
Then we need to take 2 semesters of Theory of Knowledge and write a paper for that.
I know it's nothing like college, but still. Well, some people I've talked to that got the I.B. diploma actually said that college was easier because there are less classes and more time outside of classes. My Theory of Knowledge teacher actually told us on the first day of her class that by signing up for the I.B. diploma we have signed up for two years of hell (encouragin, right?). All of the books for my classes physically don't fit in my backpack, and it's not like its small. Luckily, we don't need the books most of the time in the classes, but the teachers do have a nasty habit of needing you to bring them all on the same day. And assigning huge projects and test all on the same day.
Sorry... This probably won't help with your assignment and it's really not that bad, but I'm tired and cranky. When love bites, be sure to bite back.

Array Speaking of rants... I just had a heated argument with another fencer about throwing bouts and manipulating competitions to earn a rating. Maybe I'm being naive about this whole thing; for instance, if a D fencer and an unrated fencer are in the finals, is it common or accepted practice for the D fencer to throw the bout so his opponent (read friend, clubmate, whatever) earns a rating? Is it common for a rated fencer to withdraw at the last minute so the pool of unrated or lesser rated fencers get the chance to earn a rating? My sense of justice is really hurting here-- it seems such behavior cheapens the rating or the medal. -
paying for my kids to fence costs bucket loads of money and I just have to stand around and fix broken wires.
The students, ungracious swine, want their papers graded -- after only 6 months.
The beer is now hot and lost its bubbles.
now someone wants me to mark these 4000 word IB extended essays by cranky, over-tired little [swear filter kicks in here].
Plus, I lived in paperbag in middle of road and thought it were luxury. Kids want to live in McMansion and think they are poor. -
Oh yes, and this is the true one:
I slept badly and have pulled the muscles in the side of my neck and shoulder.

I just said the requirments were strange and I'm tired and cranky. All of which are valad. What you said, however, was uncalled for. When love bites, be sure to bite back.

Not academically; the actual material is much harder, you just get to cut out a lot of the BS they make you do in high school.
Also you usually don't have to wake up at 6 AM.
(And I didn't even have an IB thing, I just took AP classes on top of fencing, working, and music and it was still much harder than college). -
For AP and IB Originally Posted by Warrior Princess Ouch.... I admited it wan't that bad. I just said the requirments were strange and I'm tired and cranky. All of which are valad. What you said, however, was uncalled for. Your spelling is baaaaaad!!!
For example 'valad' is spelled with an I, not an A. Moreover 'scedual' is actually spelled 'schedule'.
Typos I can accept but these are legitimate spelling errors. Typos usually involve keys that are close.
The one thing I can say confidently about every Brit I've met is that they spell well. Granted its a small sample, but the English love their english. They really do take some joy about using their language. Wish we did the same.
However, Americans really don't value their language in the same way Brits seem to. F-Net is a bad example though as people are typing very fast and not spending a great deal of time correcting punctuation, spelling, etc. I do wish that we would, at least OUTSIDE of F-Net, do a better job at using English.
Having spent my entire career in Corporate America I have to say that we Americans really suck at spelling.
Spell check is for retards!!!!

P.S.: We should have remedial spelling tests in order to get raises at work. That would fix us, well, YOU, since I spell well already. -

Does it happen? Yeah.
My first coach (who you know [or at least know of], and is insane) had a few students quit over throwing a bout in a team tournament. Our A team and our B team met, and she demanded that our B team throw the bout. A team and B team both didn't accept that and the bout was fenced normally on both sides. Her rationale for why it was ok was that it "happened all the time in Poland" and "I am the coach, so I get the say so."
If I were in the finals of a D1 or C1 with a lower rated friend, would I throw the bout to give them a rating? No, but I probably wouldn't fence very hard, either. Giving away a rating or place definitely cheapens it as an award, but there are concrete seeding advantages regardless of how one earned the rating. -

Yes, you're very right in having a heated argument with the other fencer.
If one of my teammates wants a letter from me, he's going to have to earn it.
(But like AM said, it does happen, a lot. Just not when you're fencing me. ) -

It comes from learning how to spell in French before English. Well, that and it's just not the kind of thing that I'm good at. When love bites, be sure to bite back.
