Array Indy Jones, Crystal Skull and fencing? Snipped from Wikipedia on the upcoming movie: "(Cate) Blanchett learned to fence for the character, but during filming, Spielberg decided to give Spalko 'karate chop' skills."
And earlier in the article: "(Shia) LaBeouf pulled his hip's rotator cuff when filming his duel with Spalko, which was his first injury in his career. The injury got worse throughout filming until it pulled his groin."
I'm mildly curious now. What sort of fencing do you suppose they were working on? -

From the previews, I'd say smallsword or similar. The preceding post brought to you by Rabid Monk (TM). Rabid Monk: informative, irreverent, interesting, random and downright odd posts, done with pride since 1983. -

Array Just saw the movie this afternoon. Was surprised: The movie did *not* suck. (Which isn't to say it was a great movie...)
The single sword fight was fairly short, but a lot of fun. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, but can say that it involves two moving automobiles. And a third person's comment's during that combat were very amusing. -

Array it was good, but I hope whoever included the monkeys suffers. ===)-------------------

After all, I do not write for Wikipedia, but in all of the biology, anatomy, physiology, human anatomy, functional physiology, sports medicine, taping and wraping for sport, ect, ect, ect, classes I've taken (and passed), in the thousands of hours spent on the athletic fields, in gyms, rehab faculities, hopsitals, offices, and clinics, I have never, NEVER heard of a "hip rotator cuff".

Array I just saw the movie this afternoon, and my guess is Shia probably didn't do his stretches before the incident involving two automobiles. *sympathy wince* I mean, I don't even like the guy, but... ergh. "Yes! Rampaging bears are the answer to all of our cultural missteps!"

Oh.. and as a mother I would be remiss to not include Indy's great line in reference to Mutt's mother "Treat her right, you only get one." Tim got a gentle elbow on that line as well!

Array The sword fight scene was amusing and entertaining (not realistic). (The weapons looked like small swords; not rapiers as I believe they were referred to at least once in the movie.) It also makes me wonder whether that scene will awaken past threads regarding the importance of wearing a cup while fencing. The angry man will defeat himself in battle as well as in life. -

Array Yeah, the Diet Dr. Pepper 12-pack cases at Wal-Mart where I work has some character on them wielding what looked to be a small sword. My curiosity was piqued, but if they only have one fight, well, I don't know if I'd be satisfied. I still wanna see the movie anyway though, but who knows when I'll see it...Wal-Mart doesn't pay enough to support paying off student loans, fencing, medical bills, AND movies all at once... -

Array I wasn't impressed. I found the "third person's" comments to be irrelvant and merely thrown in because they are fencing terms that anyone would recognize. I have ceased to enjoy stage combat since taking up fencing. Only the sword fights in the Three Musketeers (1973) and Rob Roy do anything for me. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array I looked at something recently on television about the mysterious Crystal Skulls.... it's sort of weird. But I did try to work it out a bit, based on what I learned in biochemistry I remembered making a supersaturated salt crystal solution in the laboratory in a beaker. So, what if they made a supersaturated salt-crystal solution in a clay mold and broke the mold to get the article out... then you'd have the 'skull' seemingly made in one peice etc and so forth. I emailed the british museaum with this to see how they felt about this explanation. They are aware of it, but on the other hand, they also admit that their skull is from the 19th century and is by no means considered to be an 'ancient artifact'. Which brings me to this thought..... people living prior to the 19th century, or in any population group at any time in history had their share of creative genius. Ancient Civilizations also had their leaders who were usually the brains of their cultures who may have authorized them for religious purposes. But their role in 21st century civilization is "lost"?????
to be continued.....

But they amused me because it sounded very much like something a mother would say when she's trying to be helpful. -
