If you were part of the Nominating Committee... Hi!
Well, put yourself in their shoes, and assume that the USFA (or whichever fencing NGB you belong to) keeps a system in which there is a NC, and its nominations generally get to assume office.
What would be objective musts and dealbreakers for those people which you would consider for national office? In this discussion, I ask you to limit yourself to personal characteristics which are:
1. objectively knowable
2. known for most potential candidates, with some digging
3. not open to interpretation to any big degree. Some examples: "He is intelligent" at least fails criterion #3. "He scored over 2200 on the SAT2400 test" passes #3 and #1, but presumably not for #2. "He has an Olympic Gold" passes all 3 criteria.
Let us divide up the question into more specific chunks: 1. What personal characteristics would you consider a must for any potential candidate, no matter which post they are being considered for?
This could be a current membership - you list others. 2. What personal characteristics would you consider a dealbreaker for any potential candidate, no matter which post they are being considered for?
This could be a violent felony conviction - you list others. 3. What personal characteristics would you consider a must not for any potential candidate, but it is a must that at least a sufficient number of those in the nominated slate possess it?
One could stipulate that at least 2 nominees must have at least reached the L32 at at least one national event, but not which ones. 4. What personal characteristics would you consider a dealbreaker not for any potential candidate, but it is a dealbreaker if at least a sufficient number of those in the nominated slate possess it? 5. What personal characteristics would you consider a must for a potential candidate, given the post they are being considered for? In this case, state the characteristic-post pair that you had in mind.
This could be "got a University degree in an economical field"-treasurer pair - you fill in others. 6. What personal characteristics would you consider a dealbreaker for a potential candidate, given the post they are being considered for? In this case, state the characteristic-post pair that you had in mind.
Note that this is not about putting together a slate in which you are concerned that the intrapersonal dynamics in the slate are good. To add such criteria would make the job far more difficult. Therefore, the thread is only meant to be about putting together a nominated slate which together has sufficient qualifications, and no dealbreaking faults.
Have a nice time!

Array How does "He has a gold medal" not open to interpretation for a potential candidate? Success in a sport does not imply success in organizing and leadership in that sport.
And I'll second Durando. This entire post reminds me of an essay question:
"Take a stand for or against Truth. Support with examples."
