| seconded, I thought thatwas very very well done. It could have done a little more to explain the sport, but as we've all seen before sometimes mainstream news outlets attempts to explain the sport can end up confusing more than educating.

| Decent bout footage, good editing, no reporters making a mockery of the sport by trying to fence, and most importantly NO PUNS

| You also have to remember that this Fox Sunday Sports magazine has aired a number of fencing stories in the past two or three years, so instead of a ground up explainer, this was more of a preview to the National Championships in Portland and an update on local Olympians.
That being said, not bad at all. I liked the shot of Mariel through the saber handle. At least they were trying!

| They should've included the on guard, then ready, fence.

| I think this approach to fencing coverage (describing it as confusing and existing in an isolated world) is much better than romanticizing it and making it sound like an art where technique and brains wins over all.
If I were shopping around for a new sport or hobby and saw this on TV, I might be challenged to think "Why the hell wouldn't I be able to understand it? What could be so hard?" and probably proceed to look up some info about it. |

| I hate to post when I don't have anything to add, but I also thought it was a really nice spot. No mocking or patronizing. Some interesting camera work, some clips from an international bout (provided by the club?), and fun interviews. I think the average viewer would find this very entertaining. |

Much more effective than when I was interviewed in the lead up to the last Summer Nationals. |

| They had their own deck on which to record the tapes, but since my source tapes were HDV at 1440 x 1080i, as a Panasonic DVCPro facility they had no HDV deck to ingest the tapes into their system.
One Firewire cable later...instant TV! (Even if my glorious 16 x 9 format video got squeezed to boring old 4:3) The DTV transition cannot come too soon!

| Wow, a great news piece that for once doesn't dress the sport up in stupid stereotypes. Looks great in comparison to the awful, awful piece done by an irish sports show recently. The first 30 seconds of this almost made me cringe to death: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMpWsiRPMhI |
