southwest

hi,

i'll be taking an "unofficial" connection to portland because i had to book the two flights separately to get me there. anyway, i have 55 minutes to make this connection considering things land on time. ill be taking southwest so i wont have to leave the terminal, etc. has anyone had any problems with southwest? is it common for them to be delayed? how good are they about putting you on a different flight etc.?

logistically, southwest said it was practical and could be done without problems.
baggage situation is already worked out too.

I've flown Southwest with a fencing bag twice, and both times my items got delayed at Chicago-Midway. The first time they delivered them to me the next day and the second time they got them to me at about 3 AM the "same day." Both times I was told that it was probably because of how TSA inspects fencing bags and both times there was no TSA notice in my bag when I got it.

Either TSA is searching my stuff and not letting me know (they have searched my bag before and put in notices), Southwest just sucks, or their Midway staff suck.

Southwest is the only airline with which I have had no serious problem. One flight delay of about 15 minutes once is all I can remember.

We choose SW first if it is going to our destination and has the best deal.

We flew SW over spring break. Each time we had a 30-40 minute connection time in Dallas-had to change planes, and made the connecting flight both times. On the way to our destination, only 5 of 6 bags showed up (we were skiing). We grabbed our rental car, ate lunch, the bag was on the next flight from Dallas an hour and a half later. We drove up to the terminal, grabbed the bag and were on our way within 15 minutes. AND SW gave us a $100 voucher for our trouble. No problems on our return trip.

We've been flying SW for over 30 years-they have lost our bags twice-both times bags were returned promptly. The only delays of flights we've ever had that lasted over 1/2 hour were weather related. Anything mechanical was fixed within 15-30 minutes and we were gone.
