    Spring Arm

    Hey Everyone,

I heard there was a link here to build a spring arm for training. Anyone know where that link is?

Need fencing equipment? See me at H.O.M. Fencing Supply

Going to your first tournament? Read "Choose yer weapon, Laddie (or: Dude, where's my foil?)"

    Hmm....

I was kind of thinking the building guide was free.

Does anybody sell the spring arms? I've seen them on ebay...but now I can't find them.

The guide is WELL worth the $15, trust me! (and I don;t just say that because it's sold through my site)

There is also a description with plans & BOM for one as part of a fencing dummy in the back of Dr. Volkmann's book Magnum Libre d'Escrime (A book that I also found to worth every penny I paid for it...)

Is the design in Mergs' document similar to Volkmann's? In particular, is the "hand" part that holds the weapon similar?

No, my "hand" design is simpler and doesn't require welding. It is also designed for all three weapons. All the parts are available at Home Depot/Lowes/large hardware stores, with the exception of two parts that you need to get from McMaster-Carr or Graingers.

Also, it doesn't require cutting out pieces of wood, except for the mounting, which can be done on a variety of ways.

I built and sold one to one of the DC area fencers for $75+s/h, who is quite pleased with it.

    PM me if you're interested.

Having just built the rest of the arm using Volkmann's design (well, almost...some parts I either improved on or I was confused by the original design), I was stuck at the hand. I will buy your document and see how it works!
