I have been thinking about something for a while and wanted to put it out here for other oppinions from those more learned that me. Being a college coach with a very small budget it is often a challenge to keep gear and equipment up to date and functioning. I have recently been able to trade in old 2-weapon scoring boxes for a discount on new 3-weapon boxes. I have been wondering about the feasability of something like this with other gear, specifically masks. I have a good number of old masks, mainly Santelli, that have the removable bibs and can't be used for competition. I was wondering if there is any way to "recycle" the masks and maybe trade them in for newer masks or if I am just stuck with them.

Assuming the mesh is still good (test with a punch or get someone else to if you don't have the necessary skills/experience), you can make them legal.

Sew the bibs in permanently with dental floss. Make sure to keep the stitching tight and not allow any gaps where a blade could penetrate or even get momentarily caught.
