What I really like is this trend I think France started with the design on the sleeves, thighs, and then socks. The style makes Brazil's and Japon's colour set look prettie bad ass for such a simple design. Thru the darkness of Future Past

I'm not a huge fan of Ireland's change, either... not so much because I don't like it as I really liked the old pattern.

-m It's just for the Olympics, don't stress. The Irish change will affect one person on the planet. -

The Algerian one looks like it was drawn in Magic Marker. -

It's the Olympics. They can get new breeches afterwards. Or they can do what I had to do when I moved to the UK and wanted to do world cups, get it printed on a patch and sewn on. -

Array I would just like to say that this is all very cool. I've seen some of the National logos/colors which are displayed on their fencing uniforms, but until now I had not seen some of the less well-known ones. This thread has been a most interesting read/look-see. It's neat to see how creative, or not so creative each country was.
Plus it's weird to see how the logos are changing just for the Olympics. I think after reading this, I'm definitely going to make it a point to pay attention to the "look" of each country in all the Olympic coverage I get a chance to watch. Array Second.
I just liked looking at the logos and seeing their inventiveness of design. I can't pick out a favorite of either of the two sets; some are undoubtedly better than others, and others worse, but picking a favorite/best is nigh-impossible for me; it never even occured to me there were so many ways to express national colors with a fencing theme/vice-versa.
That said, the new Italian logo is terrible. I think there's enough blue in fencing; hell, had I thought more about getting Taiwan's colors on my jacket before I got them done, I would have gotten red stripes rather than blue, simply because red is so integral to Chinese/Taiwanese culture; but it simply didn't occur to me till I got my jacket back. And it would have been just one more level of spite I could have heaped on any mainland Chinese I ran across...not that the Taiwanese (not CTFA) flag on the back of my jacket isn't already enough, lol...Well, there are always second attempts... -

There have been postings about stencilled vs sewed on US logos. But for the Olympics we should expect them to be extremely meticulous about all members of a team being identical. Gabriela Mayer turned loose. I wouldn't be surprised if they were even more picky about the traditional fencing countries than about the countries that might have only one fencer. Whoopee! Each country's gear will be checked together at control to make sure they are identical within the team. Perhaps the more traditional countries with more qualifiers will have less worries about new kit as they have more money/sponsors? -

I suspect Gabriela will insist on identical hair colour. -
