Array What was America Thinking? Michael Johns this early, while Syesha & Kristy Lee are still contendors? ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Whew! So I'm not the only one left wondering WTF this is about. Sports? Politics? World News? Entertainment? Noisy Neighbours? Fencers? Beer, it's whats for dinner! ~ a young snowboarding Canadian The meek don't want it! ~ sticker on a rock band's guitar -

Array Pop Culture for $1,000, Alex .....
What is American Idol?
Maybe? I'll admit, it is a random guess on my part since I have never watched the show, ever. However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally take a look at the results. ~ Churchill

Array Yes, I was referring to American Idol. Sorry, I thought it was a popular enough show that I did not have to be that specific. I guess I am just a pop-culture swine. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Damn it. I do not want to know anything about american idol. If I remember any
of those names you mentioned I'm going to be pissed off. -

Array I never watched any American Idol, nor wanted to, until Season 6 (last year).
Under normal circumstances, I am the biggest purist when it comes to not being initiated into mainstream stuff.
For example, how many of you are familiar with my Top 5 favorite bands (seeing their name in the "What are you listening to now?" does not count): - New Order - okay, so they're relatively well known... well, I don't like their popular songs!
- Talk Talk
- Ultravox
- The Psychedelic Furs
- Loreena Mckennitt
Another example: I don't have cable TV. On top of that, we don't get local chanels.
How do we watch American Idol? We have dinner w/ my in-laws on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Why do I watch it? Because my wife and I have few common interests. While she likes to sing, I enjoy music. I watch the show because its something I can tolerate and that my wife and I can share. Actually, Simon's quite funny, although I could do without the other judges.
I guess I am on the wrong forum to get any real responses. My point was simply, said contestant, Michael Johns was an excellent rocker. In fact, I anticipated seeing him in the top 3 (you know, like Daughtry). He was, however, kicked off last night due to voter stupidity. There are way less talented or entertaining people than him. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

No worries. I was not amazed that you watch the show. After I figured out your reference, I was amazed that the six people on the planet who don't watch the show were the only ones to have answered your post. Idol really is not my thing, besides which I fence on Tuesday and it conflicts with Project Runway on Wednesday. Array I'm so out of it. I honestly don't remember the last time I watched a TV show. And I'm not one of those snobs who brags about not watching TV, I really really used to love it! But my life is just pretty well filled up, and what with one thing and another, there's never time for TV.
Actually, it's been so long now that I don't even know what's on, and haven't followed the shows that have story lines, so there's not a whole lot of incentive to turn on the tube even if I did have a moment.
So, out of curiosity, what ARE the major shows these days? Are there any I probably ought to make the attempt to catch, either because they're that good, or because I need the references to function in polite society? Just because you have the right, that doesn't mean it is right. -
