Blade balance - Sabre So, I believe the time may be coming for my Pozdniakov blade from LP. Although it has dutifully served me well since Denver JO's,( ) I fear it will soon meet its demise. My main concern with replacing it is balance. Since I haven't had to replace my blade in a while, I haven't had experience with different blades. My question to you is, which blade currently available would give a rough equivalent of the balance in my old blade? I don't see weight as too much of a problem, but I absolutely love the balance, and hope I can find something similar.
Any conjecture on the merits of different balances are appreciated. "I'm not going to say anything because nobody believes me when I do." - Ringo Starr -

Array Haven't had a Pozdniakov but I found the balance in the STM rainbows to be both good and consistent.

Array We found that the most similar balance was with a BF sabre blade. For some reason I can't get the non-maraging ones now, but we were using the BF Blue non-maraging sabre blades as a pretty good match for the Pozd.
Don't know which retailers have that blade in stock. We're looking to get a few of the maraging BF sabre blades in, but it's going to be a few weeks before that happens.

Array I'm fairly certain we will not sure a non maraging BF blade in any weapon again, Uhlmann dropped them because of their brittle batches of earlier this year.
I for one welcome our maraging overlords....

Array The blade I have made the best balance with so far was actually a Mr. Chen blade. I only got a brief feel for the Poz blade at my last NAC, so I can't say for sure they are of similar balance (though I clearly remember liking the feel ).
Still, that's 3 opinions. My preference is for the lightest weapon with the balance pulled as far back as possible, so take that into consideration.
I have a blade that is designed to be as heavy as possible (for practice), and it might be better for your needs. It's the LP maraging blade (I-shaped cross section). If weight isn't a factor (and your wallet can take the hit) I would give that one a try. It has a pretty thick base for a sabre and a pretty whippy tip. The reasons I use it for practice are just because of its weight and my insistence to score with old-school cutting techniques, rather than getting lucky with whip-overs. It's about progress, not results!

Would either of these be what I'm looking for? They seem to be in stock. http://www.blue-gauntlet.com/store/products/198 http://www.zivkovic.com/item.jsp?web_id=302
Thanks for the help guys. "I'm not going to say anything because nobody believes me when I do." - Ringo Starr -

In Chicago, only one vendor---BG, I think---had any when I got there on Friday. They had one, and two blued ones. Half an hour later they were gone.
Is there a shortage going on? Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Is there a shortage going on? I just bought one from Absolute last week. They seemed to have plenty. -

Array There is/was a brief shortage when STM couldn't ship ANYTHING for about a month, during the holidays to be so unlucky. Ukrainian customs like to take long vacations.... Similar Threads -
