college and divisions and qualifying

So I'm going to college and I'm too far away from home to return for qualifiers. Can you switch divisions in the middle of the year if you're in college? Or should I just petition and say I'm in college outside my division?

Being out-of-town at school is explicitly NOT an acceptable reason for a petition.

At the start of the season a fencer may select as his/her division the one where s/he lives, where s/he belongs to a fencing club, or where s/he attends school.

From your post it appears that you selected the division where you live. You are stuck with that choice for the remainder of the season, barring specific permission from the Board (or the EC, acting in place of the Board between meetings) for an exceptional change.

It might have been an exception to move divisions if it wasn't almost April already.
