Summer Nationals - Veterans Events

I'm thinking of going this summer for the first time and just looked at the format for the Veterans competition on the USFA site. I may be reading this wrong from the online handbook, but it does not appear to be pools to DE like the NACs. Rather its DE from the start. Can anyone explain how the vets events at the summer nats are handled? Thanks.

This is what the Athlete's handbook says for format:

Format (Championships)
• One round of pools
• 80% promoted out of pools
• No repêchage
• DE bout format: 10 touches in two 3-minute segments. In saber, bouts are fenced to 10
touches, with a 1-minute break when the first fencer reaches 5 touches.

What he said.

NAC vet events have no cut after pools---100% go tyo DEs.

And thank heaven for that! Otherwise I would have DFL'd. As it was, I got a chance to claw my way off the bottom -- from 33rd to 32nd, before I was taken apart by Joe Biebel (who finished 2nd).

That first bout you fenced was nice. And ya can't feel bad bout losing to Biebal, he is gooooooooood.

p.s. I reffed both of those bouts I believe

You did indeed. It was a good time. My coach is still looking at video from that day. I've been busting my hump correcting errors. We'll see what progress I've made Sunday at the Cherry Blossom.

I hate the SN format. The last time there I missed moving up by one touch.

There was my name with the dreaded marker line just above it. Of course that still beatshow I spent last summer. Not in Miami for sure.
